My wife is dragging me to see Tori Amos tonight in Boston...
I really can't stand any stuff of hers I have heard so far
but I hear she is good live, and I figured I would check it out...
Anyone else here like her or have seen her perform live?

Thanks.... I am getting a little excited now..
it is also my first time at the Orpheum, and I love checking out new venues... (where I will be seeing Dylan, NIN and Springsteen in the coming month)
My roomate in college used to listen to Ani Defranco (sp) and I hated it...then I saw her open for Dylan at Jones Beach, and she was pretty good... I still didnt like her on CD, but she was good live, so I figured I would give Tori a chance...

Recommend some Tori Amos albums I can check out. What's her best?
I'd check them out chronologically, starting with either Little Earthquakes or Under The Pink. Both are solid efforts and showcase some of her best work. Boys For Pele is probably her 'best.' It has -- in my opinion -- the widest variety of different types of songs. From The Choirgirl Hotel is yet another solid album. In fact, the excellent quality of work was consistent throughout each of her first four albums. I have found it hard to get into "To Venus and Back" and everything that followed it, but definitely check her out. It's always fun trying to figure out what she's singing about.
Oh, for anyone seeing her live this tour.. she's so meticulous with the setlists. She has had 'themes' for every division of the show, so it's always enjoyable to try and figure out what those are. She also does two covers during the "Tori's Piano Bar" portion of the show, so maybe you'll hear and old favorite. She's pulled out some interesting stuff lately.

I like From the Choirgirl's Hotel the best. But you can't go wrong with Little Earthquakes or Boys for Pele either.
She's great live also btw
I absolutely love choirgirl hotel too. I know a lot of people favor the first three over that one but it's easily my favorite. The others are great too but the vibe on choirgirl does it for me. I've seen her 6 times and it's definitely a great show.

Never seen her live but I love her music.
Same. I've only seen footage of her live on television and things like that, but I've never been to a concert to really experience her.
I really love Little Earthquakes. It's such an amazing album. I have yet to buy From the Choirgirl's Hotel, but I intend to based on what I've read of the album. It sounds fantastic.
There was another thread for her that Darrin made with the same title - there's more about her in here...

I saw her recently on one of those PBS music shows. She sounded (and looked) great. I've been a fan of hers since her first single, which was a breath of fresh air at the time. Her cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was also very popular.
