Title says it, is this normal? My record player ain't great, but played back to back with vinyls both new and 40 years old there's a noticeable difference. It lacks any kind of low-end and generally sounds pretty weak. Anyone else have this problem or could i have a defect?

A poor sound system probably won't help, but you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect modern records to sound like those from 40 years ago. I'm not talking about the physical product, just the way albums are produced and mixed.

ok fine, my them crooked vultures, decemberists, and white stripes sound quite good. My pearl jam on the other hand sounds weak, with almost no bass and pretty quiet to boot. I guess I should rephrase to if anyone else has had a problem.

Yeah, I can think of at least two things wrong here.
The quality of the record player isn't the problem here. My other records sound good. My Vitalogy doesn't. Honestly I expected some level of help above being patronized and treated with smart ass replies, it's a simple question.

You could just have a bad press.

Is anyone else noticing a problem with the new vinyls? This isn't another Amongst The Waves issue here, is it?

I thought Vitalogy sounded okay..not as good as other new/old vinyls but better than the old CD version I've been listening to all these years. What I think sounds really bad is the Ten Redux vinyl. Vitalogy reissue is "light years" ahead of that IMO.

Yeah, you gotta weed through a few of those before you get any real answers.
