there must be a few fans here of this great 60's classic rock band, right? :!: i loved it when eddie was their special guest at the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame induction. moreover, while watching the NBA's Boston Celtics vs NY Knicks this afternoon on ABC, i was listening to the Doors' WAITING FOR THE SUN (reissue) - great tracks like "Love Street," "Not to Touch The Earth," "Unknown Soldier," "Spanish Caravan" and especially "The Celebration of the Lizard" - tell me what your favorite Doors's album/song is...my fav right now is LA WOMAN especially the song LA WOMAN

"i see your hair is burning
hills are filled with fire
if they say i never loved you
you know they are a liar" - LA WOMAN, The Doors/Jim Morrison

good stuff, consistently great band.

Wish Jim could've lived; would've loved to hear him jam out live with Arthur Lee. Not to mention the oft-mentioned Doors/Love double bill that never materialized.

thanks for the tip on Arthur Lee, never heard of him before..

i have an official double CD from the Doors - at the Boston Arena in 1970 - which i strongly recommend - just to hear the jamming on "Break on Through" and "Roadhouse Blues" makes the CD well worth it - check out The Bright Midnight Archives for classic live Doors material...

No longer 16, Robby Kreiger's guitar is the only thing about the Doors that's remotely interesting to me.

to me, Densmore is the most interresting musician in this band. Morrison was good - when put in context, that guy is dynamite.

I really love the Doors studios albums, but the live stuff is very hit and miss with me. More like hit, miss, miss, miss, miss, hit.

As for Arthur Lee, the Love album Forever Changes represents an era in my life where I listened to it several times daily.

Still love the Doors though I don't listen to them as much as I used to.

i still love the doors, just probably not as much as i did when i was 17. say what you want about morrison's lyrics, but the man could sing. some of the best pipes in rnr ever, imo. add robby krieger to the mix and i think they are still one of my favorite bands. i'm a sucker for the blues though so i see why some people dont love them.

la woman is also my favoite song.

Assuming Morrison refers to Van, I can get down with what you're saying; if it refers to Jim, I'm admittedly stumped as to what criteria you're using.

Yep, Jim Morrison is one of those vocalists I'll always love.

basically my criteria is "does his/her voice do something for me?" its pretty simple. i love van's voice as well, but jim's got more soul to his voice

no one ever talks about it but jim did have one of the best screams in rock. the previously mentioned when the music is over has examples. few have done it like he does.

Van never screamed (well, maybe parts of "Gloria"), thus I can't consider him to be rock.

If Jim would have lived on, they would have most likely toured in 71 or 72 with a bass player for the first time ever, a bass player named Jerry Scheff. Which means Elvis would have lost his great bass player. Which means the Elvis live at Madison Square Gardens without Jerry, probably means no killer bass solo during Polk Salad Annie, and I probably never get into Elvis. Which ironically enough, after I had gotten into Elvis, because of said bass solo in Polk Salad Annie, that Jerry played on the doors LA Woman album, I got into the doors. And a few years later, watching the doors RnR HoF performance with this guy named Ed... I then got into this lil band called Pearl Jam... So, If Jim doesnt die... I might not be posting this at all... hows that for a lil Elvis to Pearl Jam connection.

I used to post on the doors message board ALOT
until they had the big split up back in ummm 2003? when Ray and Robby decided to try and go on tour as the doors even though they all decided back in 73? theyd never tour as the doors again. So John and Jims estate said no, Ray and Robby did anyway, with Ian Astbury singing, and it spilt their fans right down the middle and pretty much ripped their official message board (which was actually a great message board) to shreds.

Johns awesome and his first book is one of the best rock books ya can buy.
but yeah after that, I didnt listen to them as much, but Break on Through is still one of my all time top 5's, and Riders on the Storm, what a great song.
