It feels horrible until you get off the phone. Then it feels great.

You don't know me that well, so you don't know that I'm badass...I email in sick.

Thread title is misleading. I used to work for a place where I had to be in around the same time as the office managers who I'd call in sick to. So if I wanted to call in sick from bed it was as simple as a voice mail.

It's a misnomer thread.

Now that I have kids, this requires lying to my wife and staying away from home for 10 hours. It's less fun. I'd come to work if I had to drag a bloody stump of a leg.

I don't think I've done this in 5 years. I know I haven't done it in the last 4.

I never do this. If I want to take a day off, I just do it. I don't need to lie about being out of the office.

But, I have employees who do this all the time - usually they email me too. The most obvious days are Mondays & Fridays. Pretty lame.

Am I the only one struck by the irony that George Costanza is giving a lecture to those who give less than their best effort either at work or getting there?

No!

Especially a George Costanza wearing a Grand Poobah hat!

There is nothing like that feeling of calling in sick once you hang up the phone. That is, unless you then have to have a bloody stump in the other hand.
Like ouch, dude.

Edit...Nevermind, I see you have to take that bloody stump to work anyway

I never called in sick when I was well, but I have exhibited a very weak definition of "sick" on occasion.

My rationalization was that I had a migraine til late Sunday...and I didn't feel amazing...i.e. I wouldn't have given maximum effort at work today anyway.

But my paycheck stops July 1st and I was given 20 sick days on June 30, 2010. I'm going to use a couple of them because I get paid for not one of them that I save.

If I'm sick on a Sunday and miss out on my day off, I just call in sick on Monday to make up for it.

I used to be a HUGE malingerer, in school. Now it just makes me feel guilty and lazy. Damn you adulthood... ?

I skipped less than 10 classes while in college. Went all the time even if I felt like my time would literally be better spent elsewhere. At a job that won't/can't be my career...I say fuck it.
