Both Gaga and PJ had elaborate audience participation routines tied to each song, which was cool, but I kinda wish Pearl Jam would add a little narrative to their concerts.

Wouldn't that require more concrete set lists?

I think the audience participation is at the limit of what i want it to be. maybe too far.

I miss the mid '90s when you'd have the whole audience singing along to every lyric with Eddie. As we've aged, we've lost that to a degree.

But what really puzzles me is why anyone would choose to watch a Lady Gaga special on TV.

In Boston we sing along to all the words to every song. We're just better fans and it's probably why we get the best shows.

I've always found the Boston shows to be overrated.

I was just playing up the snobby Boston fan stereotype.

Diversity education, I wanted to see how the other half lives.

Wait, I'm confused--was Pearl Jam featured on the Lady Gaga "Monster Ball" special? Did they have choreographed dance routines? Skanky whore outfits? Please elaborate please.

Nah, the whole Gaga show was done-up like a coke-fueled junior arts college dropout's interpretation of Hansel and Gretel. I couldn't help but draw parallels between those kids "putting their paws up" and some of the things PJ fans (myself included) do, like the "1-2-3-4-5 against 1" hand thing during Animal. We, PJ fans, also smile when we get a "story" in PJ shows, like the Mamasan trilogy. Then that lead to me thinking about how Green Day made an entire Broadway show out of their tired music and what a PJ show might sound like if there were any sense of order in their setlists, outside of "close with Ledbetter." Pj songs and albums definitely have similar undercurrents running through them, it might be interesting to see a concert those were organized into an overall theme or concept.
