i prefer GTF (Yield will always be associated with an era of my life i'm quite fond of) but i think ATW isn't as bad as this board made it seem. i especially love the guitar interplay in it.

I would say that Give To Fly is probably the "better" song.
I prefer Amongst The Waves.
for reals d,t?
Yeah.
It's probably mostly a "newness" thing. But Given To Fly has never resonated with me the way it has with others. I think the lyrics are beautiful. But I still hear Goin To California every time and I have a hard time getting over that.
And I honestly think the second verse of Amongst The Waves is some of the best writing on the whole of Backspacer. I love the interplay of the words. I love the melody and the imagery (no matter how worn some of it is). And I love the way Ed sings it.
It's really a high point on Backspacer for me, whereas Given To Fly is middle of the pack Yield.

Whatever gets you high man. I'm not even a big GTF guy, I just think that while catchy, ATW is kinda bland and generic. I basically think that about 75% of Backspacer though.
I kind of see what Durden's saying. I don't go crazy for Given To Fly either. It's very well written, but not very entertaining for me. Middle of the pack Yield definitely. 'Faithful' and 'No Way' are much, much better.
I always associated them. When I first heard Amongst the Waves and read the lyrics, I immiediately was reminded of Given to Fly. I'd have to say I like Given to Fly a little better. I love the big anthemic crashing sound it has.
