i ran the ccleaner and it seems to have solved the issue. for the first time when installing skype, a message popped up about my firewall, so hopefully that means that some settings have automatically changed to allow the software to work consistently.

Ccleaner is also a good tool to clear cache from various pieces of software on your computer. It's one of the first things i use when shit starts acting funny.

it worked once, i closed it down. i tried to start it up a few hours later and it was up to its old tricks. it does this thing where it's like two skypes are running at the same time, but they both just kinda freeze.
