Reminds me so much of a Zep album. Shame it had to be the last one.
And I thought I was the only one who thought the same thing. The opening songs "Pretty Noose" and "Rhinosaur" definitely sound like hard-rocking "Physical Graffiti" outtakes, while "Dusty," "Zero Chance" and "Burden In My Hand" wouldn't have sounded to out of place on "Led Zeppelin III." But other than "Blow Up The Outside World," I think that's where the Zep comparisons end, especially during the second half of the album, which sounds like nothing but 100% Soundgarden.
I still think that "Superunknown" is not only Soundgarden's best album, but one of the best records of the 90s, as well. But "Down On The Upside" is a very close second, and in fact those two albums plus "Badmotorfinger" make up what I think is one of the best trio of albums ever recorded by any artist.

It's a good album, but there is just something that feels 'off' about it. Like theres a stylistic piece missing in the puzzle. Instead of being Zep 3, some of it is just plain dull.

Very overlooked album IMO, along with Ultramega OK(which I have been listening to all week!)
My favorite SG albums- 1. Badmotorfinger 2. DOTU 3. Superunknown 4. Ultramega OK 5. Louder Than Love
I have officially given up on ever choosing a favorite Soundgarden album. I just can't do it. As far as full-length albums go, though, I'd have to agree with you in placing Louder Than Love at the bottom of the list...although I love it as well.

Maybe that's why I love this album so much. In any case, while I can certainly see the Led Zeppelin resemblance, I would be hesitant to take it quite that far. It's all 100% Soundgarden.

Amen to that!

What is it that you find dull? I know that a lot of people weren't as fond of this album as Superunknown, for example, and I've never really understood why.

DOTU is a great album. Zero Chance, Overfloater, and Tighter and Tighter. are my favorite songs. I would probably rank it as my 3rd favorite SG album just behind Badmotorfinger. A lot of great memories associated with this album, too.

Yeah sometimes I can't decide either, but Badmotorfinger will allways be at #1, and the others (except LTL, which is still awesome) are a toss up.

Yes. But DOTU is very close.

I remember how excited I was when I got an advance of this record, long before there was anything resembling an internet leak. Songs like Tighter and Tighter, Overfloater and Burden In My Hand still slay me to this day.
