John Lennon 'would have voted for Ronald Reagan' New documentary says 'Working Class Hero' was embarrassed by his early radicalism
John Lennon would have abandoned his left-wing views and voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980 - if he had been allowed to vote in the US - his former personal assistant has revealed.
Fred Seaman, who worked as Lennon's personal assistant from 1979 to his death in 1980, has said in new documentary Beatles Stories, that The Beatles man had become embarrassed by his earlier radicalism.
According to Jam Showbiz, Seaman said: "John made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on Jimmy Carter."
"He'd met Reagan back in the 70s at some sporting event. Reagan was the guy who ordered soldiers to go after the young peace demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that. He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me."
Seaman continued: "I also saw John embark in some really brutal arguments with my uncle, who's an old-time communist. It was pretty obvious to me he had moved away from his earlier radicalism."
"He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he'd been when he wrote 'Imagine'. By 1979 he looked back on that guy and was embarrassed by that guy's naivety."
Beatles Stories has been directed by Seth Swirsky and is currently touring film festivals around the world.

There's not much there to get worked up about here. This is the same guy who bought Magic Alex's bullshit to the hilt and who sent walnuts (wasn't it walnuts? I forget) to a bunch of world leaders as a "plant trees not bombs" schtick. He was always very passionate and never very aware, so it's inevitable that he'd probably have had a phase like Neil had...that swing to the right and then return to liberalism as he gets older.
