What songs would you folks put on an easy, breezy summer playlist?

As a soundtrack for the dog days of summer, specifically when sitting on the porch at my place in the country and wasting a day listening to cicadas and watching the river float lazily by, I want something delicate, folky, and for some reason even a little melancholy. So whenever I get down there I will most assuredly listen to Horse Feathers' Words Are Dead and Iron and Wine's Our Endless Numbered Days. Those two records for some reason really encapsulate that place and feeling for me. So if i had to cherry pick a few of the songs that from those albums that best convey that idea...

Iron and Wine - Passing Afternoon, Sunset Soon Forgotten
Horse Feathers - In Our Blood, Like Lavender, Finch on Saturday

These work well for backyard fire and general chilling:

Time Will Tell - Bob Marley
Pachuca Sunrise (acoustic) - Minus the Bear
Constellations - Ed & Jack Johnson
The Writes Audience is Fiction - you.may.die.in.the.desert
Sing It Again - Beck
A With Living - Do Make Say Think
Looks Just Like the Sun - Broken Social Scene
On the Beach - Neil Young
Hideaway - Karen O
Unbroken Chain - Grateful Dead

I've been packing mine with Ryan Adams, Fleet Foxes, Neil Young, Allman Brothers, Band of Horses, Grateful Dead, Morning Benders, Tom Petty, and some Beastie Boys...for good measure. Results have been satisfactory.

Summer is classic rock and hard rock. Guitar driven party music. Van Halen, Zep, Crue, The Cult, GnR, etc.

And Death Metal too.

well the reason they work for me may not work for someone else, being based heavily on personal nostalgia and all.

oh yeah i figured someone would probably call me out on the fact that most of those songs aren't really summer songs. just a personal connection that they have with summer for me i guess.

Now now. I don't make fun of you for listening to whatever it is you listen to. Probably should but I don't.

Good day.
