same. i signed up cause i was under the impression it was invite only for now. kind of like gmail way way back in the day. but that is as far as i got. didnt even mess with it. we shall see if its the next "wave" or "buzz". anyone remember those??

Sorry, facebook is not going anywhere.
Google should know as well as anybody that it's content that brings value, not the features they offer. In a social network, the users provide the content. Google+ is invite only, meaning they are restricting the content that is offered, and thus, the value. Thus, it is doomed to failure.
It's like being invited to a party where you only know one person, and you can only bring a few of your friends.

I doubt it will be invite-only for very long. They're probably just running a small-scale test to make sure their framework is fine, and so they can stagger account activation somewhat.
Facebook was extremely restricted in who could get accounts for over a year after it was launched (and after it entered the social consciousness) and that seems to have turned out alright.

wave and buzz seemed like warm up acts for this...i'm not sure how practical or useful this thing will actually turn out to be..the first two just became a thing Google employees only really used (i know a good few of them) but maybe this will fare better..
