Definitely a departure from Romano's work, but I like it. That is actually a wood sculpture, which makes it all the more impressive. As someone pointed out already though, it's all about the music, and Mastodon hasn't dissapointed yet.

i'm on the fence about the new one. it seems a little middling for them. it almost feels like a b-side or a transitory album track. it's an odd choice for the single. it's not bad or anything it's just a kinda meh. hopefully the rest of the album is more like Black Tongue.

Yeah, I like it alright, but Mastodon has set the bar pretty high for themselves so I was looking forward to something crazy. I'm getting the impression that they are leaning much more towards straight up heavy rock on this record as opposed to metal or prog. Still, though, there are a lot of songs left to be heard and the few people on their forums who have heard the whole thing had nothing but positive things to say.

I think they've mentioned in interviews that this record would be a little different than past ones, as in not being tied to one storyline or theme, more like just a collection of songs. I'm still looking forward to this motherfucker.
