More than a decade after Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Johnny Depp returns to Hunter S. Thompson territory with The Rum Diary, in theaters October 28. Get a load of the rum-soaked trailer!
In The Rum Diary, Depp plays Paul Kemp, a roving New York City journalist in the Eisenhower era who escapes to pristine Puerto Rico for a gig at the local, run-down newspaper, The San Juan Star. In between gallons of rum and LSD trips, Kemp soon becomes obsessed with the incredibly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée (Amber Heard) of Sanderson, a shady American entrepreneur (Aaron Eckhart).
When Kemp discovers that Sanderson and his cohorts are looking to convert the country into a capitalist paradise for the wealthy, he's faced with helping to promote their corrupt scheme -- or take them down, big time.
Also starring Richard Jenkins, Michael Rispoli and Giovanni Ribisi, the film is directed by Bruce Robinson (Withnail & I).

I only just learned like less than 2 weeks ago that in fact Amber Heard has obliged to be very naked in several of her movies (only of hers I've seen was Pineapple Express). Alas, this is probably all for the best, as ignorance of this has allowed me over the years all that extra time out of the house that surely otherwise wouldn't have then happened
To celebrate the long awaited arrival of Hunter Thompson's Rum Diary in U.S. theaters on October 28, hunterthompsonfilms.com is releasing a series of 3 to 5 minute "webisodes" telling the story of how Hunter came to finish his first novel and then struggled with Johnny Depp to make it into a movie.
As thanks to Hunter's many fans, like you, who have acquired my films over the years, I am posting the videos for all to watch for free at
Episode One is on the website already, and I will be posting a new Episode every few days throughout October leading up to the release of The Rum Diary.
I hope you enjoy the videos and thanks for your support!!

Saw this last Saturday. It's fun and funny, it's very removed from the book. The guy who plays Sala was the best thing in this, besides the girl, of course. I got the impression Ribisi was channelling Bill Hicks in his final days. And this movie marks the 10 year milestone for a run in which Depp keeps playing the same character over and over and over and over and...

Movies are too expensive here in Houston, and even if I did go, my friend and his wife have already seen it and are assuring my group of friends that it "sucks". It would be a tough sell, since my tastes are often opposed to the rest of my friends' tastes.
