1) this kick-off rule is going to reduce scoring league-wide. 2) getting rid of the kick-off and extra-points (its even more of a useless exercise) would completely eliminate kickers.
two cents, peace.
Field goals?
edit. To expand on that, I have seen pretty reasonable arguments that say the kickoff rule makes kickers more important because a guy that can drill a 50-yard field goal reliably is now huge. Not only does he get you 3 points but the score means you back the other team up to the 20 again.
With Cundiff, the Ravens could win a lot of games without their offense ever reaching the red zone.

Here's a crazy thought that just came to my head, which might be dumb after we think about it: What if you made the kickoff a punt?
Line up both teams at a line of scrimmage suitable for a punt return with reasonable potential (somewhere between the 30 and midfield, maybe?), and execute it like any other punt. Punt returns have less risk for injury because the gunners won't be going at full speed after being blocked at the line of scrimmage.
The main problem I can think of is that you eliminate the onside kick, but you could also gain a fake punt opportunity.

I hate the kickoff rule. Why even bother? Just skip it and place the ball on the 20. So far this preseason, I've noticed guys taking it out regardless if its nearly out of the endzone or not. Sometimes it worked...worked in the sense the returner got to the 25 yard line or so. It just seems like once the season starts, teams won't want to risk it, and just do a touchback. I really like the kickoff return possibility, and this new rule just seems to take that element out of the game.

Although I've enjoyed the preseason games up until this point, I didn't really get fully into football mode until seeing Aaron Rodgers running around throwing darts with a porno stache while Phil Simms babbles in the background.

Aaron Rodgers has 2 games per season TOPS with Phil Simms. What do you do the other 15 weeks?

Just meant this game in particular was funny because of the combination. Nice to not hear Joe Buck over everything.

Watching Pierre Garcon almost makes me blow a gasket. Guy is talented enough to be a huge star but just drops way too many passes. Hate it when guys don't play to their potential.

He makes some circus catches once in a while, but overall he really isn't very good. IMO he was the goat of the Colts-Saints Super Bowl.
