so i got the other job offer and i accepted it. woohoo!

so here's the deal, this place is still hell and people are quitting left and right every time we hire someone.

people close to me and that know my situation think i should just walk out friday night, not give any notice, and say i took a job with a competitor and i'm resigning due to the conflict of interest. it isnt me to do this and i'm always going to have some guilt about doing it and i'm a little afraid it could catch up to me at some point but....i've only had like 2 days off in the past year, i've been working like 70-80 hours a week, working on weekends, i've been under so much stress that i feel like i've almost had a heart attack a few times, and my boss is a monster. furthermore, she has a policy of not even giving references, so all my hard work here isn't even going to help me much if she won't speak to anyone about it.

i feel like i NEED the 2 weeks off to even just be able to go to my new job. i'm so burnt out.

i guess the other option is offer 1-2 weeks and tell her its a competitor and she'll prob flip and tell me to leave anyway, so i might be in the same boat but at least offered it. then again, she'd probably be very desperate and might keep me anyway.

i have been interviewing people this week for new hires and i'm killing myself trying to wrap up the projects i'm working on this week.

what do you guys think?

I don't understand why you would work so hard for someone that has a policy of "no references."

If I receive a written letter of recommendation and reference, I will work ONE week to close out my open work. If not, I'm out.

either way, take at least a week for you and that beautiful wife of yours.

I think the worst thing you could do is betray who you are. You know what you want to do.

You've been gone awhile, so you may not know we have a term for that now.

i've been planning to just walk out but after speaking to friends and family i'm thinking i give 2 weeks notice, tell her i'm going to a competitor, she will probably get emotional and be unprofessional, then i leave and say i was willing to do 2 weeks notice but not if i'm being treated unprofessionally.

then at least i can say i tried.

however, this all sounds good on paper but she's pretty desperate right now and we have one other employee who we already know wants to quit. the only bright spot is we have an offer out to a guy and there's a girl doing a final interview tomorrow, so maybe if someone takes an offer it'll make things a little easier.

If you're burned out, you need some time off, especially if you want to give your best impression at the new job.

I'd just bounce without saying anything, it doesnt sound like goodwill will get you anywhere at this job.

i dont see it as being good will at the job he is worried about but him personally. while not on the same scale, i left my last job feeling like he did. i was told constantly i would get no raise because i didnt make the company money that i was a burden and i had to accept people talking down to me. i despised my managers to the point when i would leave for the week on a friday i would on the drive home already start being depressed about having to return on monday.

all my friends and ex-coworkers told me not to put two weeks in to just quit and walk out, but i didnt want to sink to their level of being shitty no matter how much i wanted to.

i just had a talk with my new boss just before lunch and he wanted to know how i was adapting and he stated he has heard nothing but compliments over my working here. i go home on friday and it seems like a week until monday comes and i am back in the office.

im hoping our mr vagina find the same pleasure in the weekends that i do now

Hell no.

You are going to need at least the ONE week to recover from this bullshit! And, I would make it clear that if she doesn't act right for your final week, that you are not even going to finish out that week.

take a week. You have a beautiful young new wife who you have spent not nearly enough time with. If she has ti work, then stay home and make her dinner every night in between napping and rm. You owe this woman you work for nothing. In a month you wont ever see her again...one week or two. Take care of yourself, and your family- not the woman and workplace that has been abusing you for years.

i felt kinda guilty and i almost caved in to the 2 weeks, but i keep thinking about how miserable she's made my life over the last 4 years and i just don't want to give her that one last thing over me.

trust me, giving 2 weeks is something that i would normally do without question, but she's almost ruined my health, marriage, life, etc.
if i didn't have such a close friendship with my wife she prob would have left me by now after the amount of work and hours i've poured into this job. she is insistent that i don't give the two full weeks and i almost feel i owe my wife that.
