Soundgarden's Chris Cornell has announced plans to release an acoustic album.

The LP - "Songbook" - features tracks from his band Soundgarden and former groups Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog. The release will also feature covers by Led Zeppelin including "Thank You" and John Lennon's classic hit "Imagine". The album is set for release in the UK on November 21.

The full tracklisting is as follows:

01. As Hope And Promise Fade
02. Scar On The Sky
03. Call Me A Dog
04. Ground Zero
05. Can't Change Me
06. I Am The Highway
07. Thank You
08. Cleaning My Gun
09. Wide Awake
10. Fell On Black Days
11. All Night Thing
12. Doesn't Remind Me
13. Like A Stone
14. Black Hole Sun
15. Imagine
16. The Keeper

Cornell recently revealed that he couldn't read or write music and he regretted not persisting with piano lessons at an early age. But he said the fact he can't read or write music hasn't hindered him in any way to becoming a successful singer and songwriter, and he can still explain his ideas to people.

I'll check this out, but I do wish he'd included a few more of the Soundgarden tracks he's been playing (Mind Riot, Like Suicide, etc.) and the Man of Golden Words/Comfortably Numb medley.

(I'm still pretty bummed I wasn't able to see him when he was here a few weeks ago.)

Oh, it doesn't say, does it?

I was assuming it was live, but perhaps it's not.

Most likely, based on the album cover, its just a compilation from his recent solo tour. I'd be surprised if he went into a studio for this. Assuming it is a live album, why can't Eddie put something like this together? The DVD was nice, but it seems like it wouldn't take much effort to release something like this.

I believe it's a song he has written in the late 90s. I'm pretty sure he played it at the 2007 tour explaining that he wrote the song for Johnny Cash's American Recordings, but Cash never recorded it. Great to finally have a decent copy of it, it's a great song. And so is that new song: 'the Keeper' :).

Looking actually forward to this, although I don't like the covers on it...

I will get it and enjoy it but the name "Songbook" makes me think of Rod Stewart or some adult contemporary nonsense and just reminds me how old everyone is including me. This sounds like the name of an album that would be played during Lilith Fair. Awful.

I've never heard Rod Stewart's album, but the phrase "Great American Songbook" refers to a very large, loosely defined body of music that encompasses some of the finest songs ever written. Nonsense it isn't.

It's seriously one of the most benign titles he could have chosen. You people will complain about anything.

Then it is really off! :D There are some good songs on there but finest ever written? I don't think so. Anyway, I just think that the wheels have come off a bit on Chris Cornell's career and the album title just sounds outdated and old as silly as that is. When I think of Chris Cornell I think of someone who kicks a ton of ass with a voice that can strip the paint off the walls but as more time passes I'm starting to think he's just another aging rocker who has sort of lost it and I really don't want that to be the case. How did we get from Mind Riot to an acoustic Billie Jean cover?
