OmegaPrime is still bringing the "Ole"-related laughs! I ask--does this guy's sense of humor ever quit?

Wow, I never listened to that Oasis song until just now.. but damn. Pearl Jam is better than than resorting to this.

Musicians steal all the time. What's the issue?

Yeah. Is this the first time PJ have stolen a riff? Or anyone? Are we forgetting that Oasis was never original in the first place? Did Oasis make this riff up?

95% of decent riffs at this point are probably lifted on some level at this point. The only question is the popularity of the original.

there's nothing original about the oasis "riff" anyway. it's two chords.

it's anything's being ripped off, it's oasis ripping off jumpin' jack flash for the chorus to meaning of soul.

The Stones, The Who, The Beatles, Zeppelin, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Bowie, The Ramones, Tom Fucking Waits...please do explain to me who hasn't in some way ripped off their peers or heroes.

Pearl Jam playing a simian-stupid progression that happens to fit a similarly mindless Oasis track isn't near what Given to Fly was to Going to California. It isn't anything compared to the thousands of songs that feature the Am-F-C-G chord progression (sometimes referred to in the Motown age as the Stand By Me progression, and now more common than stars). It isn't Bruce's heavy lifting of Sam Cooke's 'Meet Me at Mary's Place,' or the Stone's pull from Leadbelly's 'I Can't Be Satisfied,' or even the chaos that is Zeppelin's loving thievery. It's an unoriginal, uninspired lick being played with a lot of joy for a mediocre fan-gift. Not exactly opening track on the new record, eh?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to learning the chords for Just Breathe. Let's see....C, G....F....say, is there an Am in there?....wellll.....

Funny, too, because Am-F-C-G isn't the chord progression to "Stand By Me."

Hey, are you any of these?

I'm betting on number 3.

Unless of course, it's a typo, in which case you have one of the worst EPL striker goal to game ratios ever.

Lucky bastard. What do fighter pilots do when they need a leak? Is that what the ejector seat is for?

Just listened to Ole for first time in months. Verdict: I still dig it, and, scarily right now, moreso than any song from Backspacer.

I haven't fully turned around on this song. I like its frenetic energy, I like the bassline, but still hate the "I ain't got words for what goes onnnnnnnn" part.

I spun this in the car a few months back. I wish it had better fills from Matt. More rolling, descending tom-tom fills that helped accent the shifts into different parts of the song. I think it suffers a little from that. The mediocre parts would probably have a little bit more punch if there were nice lead ins to the changes.
