You're pretty but please put that shark down
Did I ever tell you about the time a shark tried to eat me, Jorge?
I ended up shooting it with a speargun, because it would not give up the attack.
True story, and a little bit frightening.
Whoa, really? Full story please.
Yeah, really.
I was spearfishing in the gulf of mexico, in about 150ft of water. I had shot a few fish and had them on a stringer, when a grey reef shark showed up.
That isn't really uncommon, but this guy kept getting closer and closer to me, so I decided that I better get my stuff together and head towards the surface.
As I started to ascend, he came straight towards me, so I reached out and poked him with the tip of me speargun, which usually is all it takes to discourage them and send them on their way...but not this guy. He swarm off about 20 yards, whipped around and charged at me with his mouth open, so I shoved the spear gun at him with all my strength.
At that point, I was getting a bit nervous, as sharks don't normally stick around after this type of encounter...but this guy wasn't giving up.
We always carry a powerhead (also called a ppd, or personal protection device) which is basically a metal case that holds a bullet and slips on to the tip of your speargun, so I put that on, hoping that he wouldn't come around for another go at me....but he did.
At that point, I used the powerhead, which killed him instantly.
I think I have a picture...let me see if I can find it....

You know, you look kind of like Dexter Holland
I used to get mistaken for Tim Robbins, especially in the LA airport...but now that I have let my hair grow out, more people say I look like a younger Greg Allman.
