I saw one of these in Alston a couple of years ago. It was like a normal hipster ten speed bike, but like twice as tall. It was absolutely ridiculous and looked in no way functional, but some dude was riding it down the street. Maybe the picture I snapped is still saved on my old phone.

I have no idea what kind of bikes you guys are talking about. Some pics would be nice.
