Royal We is pretty good, but so much of it sounds like radio emo crap to me. tried listening to it with some friends and they werent into it either. big step down from Carnavas IMO.

Perhaps you have a generalized dismissive perception of what emo music really sounds like. Swoon sounded like an homage to Siamese Dream, and all the songs were really well written. If you don't like Brian Aubert's voice that's one thing, but I kinda thought it was one of the more impressive rock albums of 2009.

thats a bold statement, pal. sounds homogenized to me compared to their earlier songs. Swoon isnt FULL ON enough for me. they never go full guitar wank like Siamese Dream does (gloriously).

I never said it was their intention or that the musicianship on it comes close to the great guitar bits and songwriting Billy put together almost 20 years ago, but the similarities in the bands and the sound of Swoon are too hard to ignore. Its mostly the Big Muff distortion pedal and the fact that just like Siamese the songwriting on Swoon is so consistent from start to ending, moreso than their previous two albums.

You're crazy if you don't like The Royal We. The orchestration in the background, that phenomenal ending? It sounds like you're just not that into Brian Aubert's voice, which I'll concede does have a little bit of an emo sound to it.
My favorite band in the last decade was probably Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I'd put Silversun Pickups right there with them. You don't see many good rock bands anymore, but this band's definitely got something great.

i can take or leave his voice... much like Corgan, heh. it's just Swoon was a bit too "alt-rock" sounding for my taste... even Carnavas, while i liked it, wasn't in my top 20 of 2006 or anything though...
i love BRMC, but they lost me after the first LP studio wise sadly.
