Alright, let's do this again shall we?

The Rules (same as every year):

1. Post however many albums in your list you would like, but only the top 25 will be counted towards the RM Top Albums of 2011 list.

2. Order your lists please if you want them counted. I'm not going to guess. Also please format them like this: 1. Band Name - Album Title or 1. Band Name, The - Album Title if it's a "The" band. This makes my life easier when compiling hundreds of entries.

3. Scoring is based on a 35 point system (35 pts for your #1, 34 pts for your #2, 11 pts for your #25 and so on).

4. Albums can be studio, live, and of any length - as long as it was released NEW in 2011. Re-releases do not count (the exception would be if an album was released in the UK in 2010, but didn't get a release in the US until 2011).

5. Sunday Jan 8th is the deadline for submission if you want your list to be compiled in the RM Top Albums list. That gives you about 2 weeks to think about it, and also leaves room for the remaining releases of the year. I will post the results on Monday Jan 9th.

PM me your list if you want to be all secretive, or just post it in this thread. I'll compile everything after the deadline. Based on the number of submissions i'll then decide if this is a Top 100, 50, 5, etc. I like these things to display at least some sort of consensus so very likely only albums with 2 or more votes will make the final list. Feel free to discuss your lists here as well.

Past lists:
Top 50 of 2010
Top 50 of 2009
Top 50 of 2008
Top 50 of 2007
Top 100 of 2006

The Bon Iver album is excellent. What are your thoughts so far?

I have The Rip Tide downloaded, but I need to give it a better listen.

I like it a lot so far. It's silly, but I think what kept me from listening to it was that I loved "For Emma" so much I was scared to death it'd be a massive disappointment. So I just kinda put it off for over six months. lol.

The Bon Iver album sucks. Here is my list:

6. Okkervil River - I Am Very Far
7. Steve Earle - I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive

Oh yeah, "King is Dead" is from this year. I would put that somewhere in my Top 20. Probably towards the bottom. Not a fan of how formulaic and samey they've become, but I really like a few of those songs-- "Calamity Song" and "June Hymn" in particular. Also the Bon Iver album is pretty fantastic.

Most of this is just withoutrings' list, because I trust and respect his judgment. I replaced a few of his with some of the only albums that I actually bought and listened to this year, mostly to start a minor ruckus. Oh, and I loved that new Tom Waits album but he'll get enough votes on here, so I'm not listing him. Again, trying for a ruckus.

1. Bill Callahan - Apocalypse
2. St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
3. Eddie Vedder - Ukulele Songs
4. Wild Flag - Wild Flag
5. Atlas Sound - Parallax
6. Thurston Moore - Demolished Thoughts
7. Destroyer - Kaputt
8. Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring for My Halo
9. Beastie Boys-Hot Sauce Committe, Part 2
10. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - Mirror Traffic
11. Bright Eyes-The People's Key

Sure, why not:

1. Eddie Vedder, Ukulele Songs
2. Miles Davis, The Bootleg Series Vol. 1: Live in Europe 1967
3. Feist, Metals
4. Tom Waits, Bad as Me
5. Brad Mehldau, Live in Marciac
6. Fleet Foxes, Helplessness Blues
7. Radiohead, The King of Limbs
8. The Roots, Undun
9. Mogwai, Earth Division
10. Lee Konitz/Brad Mehldau/Charlie Haden/Paul Motian, Live at Birdland

Lots of honorable mentions--Wilco, Decemberists, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, REM, Beastie Boys, TV On the Radio, the other Mogwai, Death Cab, Live on Ten Legs, all of which fall under the "solid entries into bodies of work by artists I love" heading--but these are the ones I really found inviting repeat listens and paying off in spades each time. The Roots might well climb a few spots once I get more familiar with it.
