I just would like to introduce myself to everyone. I have been a fan that has purchased every album on release date by the boys since Vitalogy. I have been reading posts and threads about their previous albums and i just wanted to have some type of input. IMHO the top 3 albums (10/VS/VITAL) are their clssics and can and will NEVER be toppled.
Im gonna start with 10
It was the album that made them known and who they are. Also the most filled by anthems (something we dont see from them anymore). Also their most "commercial" album. INSTANT CLASSIC!
VS: Unhappy with their previous mixing sounding "commercial; the boys called in O'Brien. BIG differeance. VS is nothing but pure ANGST on all levels of 1993 modern day society issues.
VITALOGY: To me this is their absloute prize. THE BOYS AGAINST THE INDUSTRY!!! funny thing about this one, was that when it was first released, it wasnt taken so good from the fans. Mybe bc it was pretty much played a good year befoe release? People were often turned off by the "fillers" riddled thruout the album. BUT those fillers are essential due to the fact the album has so much energy it needs to be alleviated. And thats exactly what the fillers accomplish either way, there is NO album where Eddie sounded so good. His low baritone was on the money, and the screaching was dead on! PURE BLISS! EAR SEX
Will conclude my "mini" reviews of their following albums soon to come

I agree with your thoughts on Vitalogy. It was a complete fuck you to everyone who was waiting for another Ten coming after Vs. It was really the first... and most extreme... of what was to come... Pearl Jam being more of an art-rock band. Instead of being mainstream against the mainstream, they became fully themselves against the mainstream. It was a "this is who we are and if you dont like it, you can go fuck yourself." I cant imagine the strange feeling that the critics must have felt when they got advance copies of Vitalogy and heard the likes of Corduroy and Pry To and Not For You... wonder if they knew Eddie was singing to them
Welcome to the board. It's a great place, just be sure your foot reaches your mouth

Anyone who can get the phrase "EAR SEX" into their maiden post is A-OK with me.
