If they don't fire Caldwell...

Holy cow, this was a hilarious thread. I approve of making this the general Colts thread. We need diesel, HTT, and 10_pearljam to all come back and form an AFC North hatefest thread.

I guess the big question is whether Irsay wants to give the new GM the power to hire/fire the head coach. If he does, that may bode worse for Caldwell. It would be understandable if Caldwell gets another chance, as it's clear that lack of talent was a huge problem that coaching cannot always fix.

Firing Caldwell would be first on my list. I know 18 is a giant part of what they do, but that roster doesn't warrant 2-16. Especially if I can get Jeff Fisher.

Their O-line is a disaster, the RBs are mediocre, the DTs and DBs still suck, and two of their best players (Wayne and Freeney) are old and free agents. Caldwell hasn't proven to be anything special (and I too would take someone like Fisher over him if I could get a chance), but the current state of the Colts is more Polian's fault than Caldwell's.

Fair enough, I just don't see him staying. Even though it may be inconsequential, he looks lost on the sideline.

Maybe I just hate the Colts.

Would you draft Luck, or try to score a Ditka/Williams type deal?

if someone is dumb enough to make that deal, take it. otherwise i'd take him and send Manning packing (whenever that makes sense to. i'm not sure about the specifics of his contract), even though that would be a bastard thing to do :).

If teams are smart, there won't be a market for a Ditka/Williams deal because there will likely be more options in the draft than Luck. RG3, Tannehill, maybe Landry Jones. I'd take Luck, as Peyton's career is certainly in doubt right now.

If I'm the Colts I trade the Luck pick into a huge windfall, take RG3 or another guy and groom him behind Peyton for a couple of years.

And if I'm the Dolphins I give them whatever they want and get Luck. In year 12 of the post-Marino era I don't think there is too high a price for a franchise QB.

With a guy like RG3 you could work in some wildcat shit and gimmick plays to get him going in the league. The colts always loved the hurry up. This could be another way for them to control teams that are disorganized. I'm not sure sitting Luck behind Peyton will help. Luck is likely ready to go. It will be a tough year for rookie qb's coming into the league having to live up to Newton's output (Whether the comparison is fair or not it will obviously happen).

Under what conceivable circumstances (financial and practical) would the Colts bring Manning back? I can't believe that they would pay Manning $28 million this spring without knowing whether he can even play and while winning the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

Andrew Luck in a hot tub Leinart style with the Colts Cheerleader who was recently fired for being body painted.

unless they plan to draft someone other than Luck, Manning is done in Indy and will get free agent attention the likes of which we've never seen.

that's sort of my point, all but 7-8 teams could conceivably go after him.

i'd personally like to see Wayne & Mathis go elsewhere (like NE plz).

I can't see Mathis being a fit at all unless they're real serious about switching to a 4-3.
