Some pretty nice tributes at the public memorial yesterday in State College. The chairman of Nike, Phil Knight, really spoke his mind.

I know everyone love's Joe and the trustee's handled it about as poorly as it could be handled with a quick phone call firing but the supporters need to realize that he could never coach for the school again after that and neither could McQueary. Divorces don't generally end well. It's going to become counter productive if they keep fighting the Trustees. One, the Trustees need to shut up and stop talking. There is no need to justify the decision to fire Joe. It is what it is, in this media environment you cannot wait 2 years for the trial to be over to hash everything out. They would have been front page news through January 1st. He couldn't represent the school anymore at least as a current employee, the torches were out and the people involved weren't even in the building in December. It's going to damage the brand further if they keep fighting about it. They should have handled his ouster a lot better and with class behind closed doors. They didn't, they blew it, but they made the right call for the school going forward.
