Mainstream conversation, as in, between two 15 year-old girls shopping at Abercrombie and Fitch, no.

But really, how many things that happened 80 years ago would qualify as "mainstream conversation"?

yeah most people know the names Ellington, Armstrong and Holliday even if they have no idea what they are famous for. thats about all one can expect after 80 years.

If Abercrombie & Fitch still exists in 80 years my life will have been a waste.

There will be segments of the population talking about every band in 80 years, they all have niche value. But if we're counting Bessie Smith and Woody Guthrie as "artists we'll be talking about in 80 years," then the whole discussion is moot.
