My post count does not reflect the amount of time I have spent on this board since 2004. I lurk. Anyway, it's been interesting. I have no faces to put to any of the names; in fact, I can't bring myself to even go into the "Who You Are" thread. I think it would ruin RM for me. For most posters, I actually see the avatars. B is Simon Pegg, as far as I'm concerned. Ruddo has to be the intense-looking lunatic next to his posts. It somehow makes me respect what he has to say more.
Anyway, this is clearly a community of some kind, and I'm just curious how the members of this community would look back on their history. Who are the posters that shaped this place, or maybe more accurately, who are the posters that defined what this place was for at least a period of time? Also, if it applies, where are they now?
Here's my list, and I'm sure I'm forgetting key names:
Cal Varnsen/Doc Van Nostrand: Back in 04, they were running this show. You couldn't go into a thread without them being their twice already. I have no idea what happened to Cal, but I think Doc still posts occasionally.
Godeatgod: Or GEG. I first read the phrase "post whore" in reference to him. He started so many threads, and I think he was basically talked down from the ledge in many of them. He's the first person I never knew who I legitimately feared for. He went away for a long time, and I was relieved when he came back.
Woody: Was that his name? Was it Woodrow? All I remember is his schtick was to us AT all the time. It was somehow both funny and not funny at all. I think he was banned, but I don't know why. I hope it wasn't because he was a little annoying.
Frank: Okay, I admit, he was just another poster to me. There are a lot of names I see a lot, and he never stuck out to me. His death, however, really rocked this place. Occasionally an old thread will surface or I'll accidentally click on the first page of a long thread and I'll see his avatar with the Christmas hat on, and it bugs me every time.
Stip: I admit, I don't even read the guided tour stuff. 15 years ago, I would have eaten up every word. I guess I already have a relationship with most of those songs, so I don't want a fresh insight. Also, they're long. I do, though, think Stip represents the best of the Pearl Jam aspect of this board, and I enjoy his reasonably-sized posts.
B: The guy use to own the hot chicks thread with sort of amateur stuff rather than the airbrushed shit that most of it is now. His front page updates have made this a website worth checking every day.
Chud: Just on volume alone, he's on the list. I also enjoy the banter between him and Dime. It's too bad they're an ocean apart.
Kosmicjeli: I nearly quit RM entirely because of her. Don't know why she got banned exactly. My guess is it was similar to Capone getting nailed for tax evasion. I don't care. I hated last summer here.
Skitch: or Edzeppe. Because of his old avatar, I picture him as black. I also see him as the voice of reason in the Sports forum. Probably because he's not from New England, New York, or Philly.

this place has died at the hands of fascists. Anytime someone exceptional shows up and surfaces above the seas of mediocrity that is now RM, you mongoloids begin some kind of McCarthyrite witch hunt. What psychoanalysis tells me about you dilettantes I can assure you is not very becoming.

Greed and selfishness, though they may be the epitome of human nature, are not virtues, and should never be celebrated or idealized, nor even normalized. They should be treated as other natural scourges of humanity have always been treated: contained, opposed, extricated, and ultimately vaccinated against. This is how we as a species shall rise above our animal birth, and grow closer to our divine inheritance upon reaching philosophical majority. To embrace self-interest, as do the Objectivists, is to choose to wallow in retarded, syphilitic, spiritual adolescence, never accepting any reality that cannot be touched, chained, sold, or killed.
