I've found one, spent a few days reading about it because I couldn't download the proper software and now I'm really excited to do this during autumn when there's lots of mushrooms about.

I've never tried it but it sounds fun. I think my cousin does it.
It is fun, and obviously you do other stuff on your travels. I thought I knew my area pretty well but still found some special sites to look over the town. Including one which looks over a lagoon that I've always wanted to explore but couldn't get in to.

I used to do this a lot. It took me to some very awesome places when I did it while on vacation in Maui once. Once you find all the ones in your area though, you are kind of stuck until you travel.

This is what I was thinking. The website though recommends that you do maybe 20 before you start hiding them yourself. Hopefully the more people that join in, the more you'll be able to find, and the better the prizes and more challenging the puzzles.

This hit it's peak in the U.S. in the late 90's to early 00's. So unless parents are getting the next generation involved, not sure how much more joining in will be involved. I bought a travel bug and dropped it off in one. It made it halfway around the world and then got lost. Stupid people.

Nah, you have to be able to afford a smartphone.

My son was home sick with strep throat today. He feels fine, so we went and found one. Pretty boring for adults, but I think he'll enjoy this.
I did the navigating, cuz I'd never done it before, but I'll let him do it next time. The GeoBeagle app just gives you an arrow on your screen and you walk in that direction.

Where it gets fun is if the cache takes you to some cool places. I think I read somewhere that there are over a million of these things hidden around the world, so you can go on a hunt in just about any place you find yourself. There are varying degrees of difficulty in finding them. Also, a lot of them have cool little trinkets inside and other things to check out. There is a series of caches around where I live that offer little history lessons for the area. I dunno, I've enjoyed it--there can be a lot more to it besides jsut simply finding the cache. My son and I are planning to hike to the top of a mountain to get one this weekend...
