Storm Corrosion is the long-discussed and highly anticipated collaboration between two of the modern progressive rock scene's most innovative and multi-talented artists: Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth and Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson. The pair will release Storm Corrosion on May 8, but you can pre-order it in two deluxe packages starting today!

Storm Corrosion Double LP Edition

The Storm Corrosion Special Edition Blu-Ray/CD Set & Collector’s Edition Double LP Bundle is $50, and includes the album on 180 gram black virgin vinyl, in a gatefold jacket with exclusive artwork; a digital download of the entire album in high quality FLAC files; the Blu-Ray/CD version of the record, which offers the album on CD; a Blu-Ray disc containing a 5.1 audio mix of the entire album, two exclusive demo tracks, and five instrumental tracks; a 24" x 36" fold-out poster; and a separate 12" x 12" poster autographed by both Mikael Åkerfeldt and Steven Wilson.

The Storm Corrosion Collector’s Edition Double-LP Set is $35, and includes the vinyl version, the digital download, and the two posters.

Storm Corrosion CD/Blu-Ray Edition

If, for some reason, you're reading this from Europe, you can pre-order either of these items at this link.

Steven Wilson's most recent was outstanding and I really liked the newest Opeth., so I'm really pumped for this. It's going to be amazing.

I hate that I just spent $60 to preorder the double LP/bluray/CD... But I've been waiting for this project to happen for years.

I'm not going to go into spoilers at this point, but the song 'Storm Corrosion' is exceptional...

I'm just gonna also say I REALLY love the guitar part at the end of Ljudet Innan. Gorgeous stuff!

Furthermore, I was kind of expecting to have a Heritage-like reaction (negative) to this record, but upon first listen I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

I was hoping that because of the brilliant musicianship on display in both of these bands, the worst excesses wouldn't be present on this album. But they are, unfortunately. The lyrics are horrible, I hate the vocals. It's basically Tim Burton musical meets Disney song. I would love it as a soundtrack to a cartoon, but an album I'm meant to take seriously? No thanks. Far too theatrical.

Only listened once, but disappointed on this one. Didn't expect the preview to be the most dynamic song on the album.

I'll probably give it another try at some point, though.

It's interesting.

That's it.

I like it. It is interesting, and different. Kind of meandering at times. Creative though...

That said, I have just been listening to a fuck-ton of Opeth lately. Got to see them in Seattle last Monday, and it was truly good!

Really not impressed after the first two listens. It has some nicely layered vocals, but that's about it. The best track is Lock Howl, which probably wouldn't have even made the cut on Grace For Drowning.

Maybe the 5.1 version will breathe some life into it, but right now, I'm inclined to believe this is the most disappointing album ever (considering how long they've been talking about collaborating).
