In lieu of another NFL death which could possibly have to do with brain injury,
I'd love to see the NFL take a stronger look this year the at horrible tackling technique particularly exhibited by DB's that in truth is spearing.
The word spearing seems foreign when you mention it to young players, but so many injuries occur because players lead with their head. They dive at knees with their heads, They dive at backs with their heads. It's ridiculous. Helmet to Helmet is one issue yes, but get their freaking necks up and WRAP UP! Knee to head will either scramble the knee or scramble the brain or both.
Seau had a lot going on, I don't think we can totally link it to simply NFL play but 20 years of some of the hardest hits in the league have to have taken their toll on his body.
People can say it's putting a skirt on players all they want, whatever. I don't want to see guys die on the field or after they are done, and they can change a lot with technique by making them pick up their heads. I have no issue with big hits if it's shoulder pad to face mask even though those are rough too it's part of the game. I just think they could stop some of the injury by perhaps limiting the suits of armor and focusing on technique.
most NFL running backs will slaughter a defensive player that has to tackle by raising up and using their arms. either no one, including offensive players, can hit or everyone can.

agreed, except re: passing QBs. hitting a QB is different because, like kickers and punters, the game makes them more vulnerable and less able to react.

RIP
If he purposefully shot himself in the chest in order to preserve his brain like Duerson...the implications of that are pretty huge. It's tragic and I could see even more guys ending up like this.

my theory as a guy who works in IT and does not know Junior and is only going by what i read
didnt he drive his car off a cliff a while ago after being arrested (or maybe an argument with his GF) and say he fell asleep. i recall a lot of people wondering if it was a suicide attempt.
now he has the guts to do it but doesnt want people to think he is just suicidal without a reason so he shoots himself in the chest to make it look like it was because of football. it has been reported hes never missed a game cause he reported a concussion. thats not to say he never exp one

again, could being the key word.
still, if we're at 5 of 8, that's still 62.5% of the men that have died that also played for the same team 18 years ago.
