This could be a good opportunity to foist your own political ideology onto them though. Any one disagrees with you, fail 'em.
presto- grading made easy!
that would be easier...

I'll have about 30 10 page papers and 15 research projects from the politics and media class. The killer right now is the rest of the semester. I give a lot of flexibile/floating due dates so students can get stuff done early. I also allows them to do rewrites to replace an old grade since I'm a hard grader and it teaches them to edit. But that requires getting work in earlier so there is time to rewrite them. But the lion's share of the students don't take advantage of that so I'm also in the middle of 60 or so smaller papers that were supposed to be trickling in throughout the semester.
What kind of portfolio are you saddled with?

Their portfolios are mostly re-writes of stuff they did earlier in the semester; they put three essays in each plus an introduction. So I'm reading whatever 45x4 is for essays (180?); of course, at this point, I know what I'm looking for, but it's just a lot of reading. Is your semester over yet? We're in finals period now, so I don't have to see any of their stupid faces.

it ends Friday for me. I'll be sorry to see it go. I liked all these classes. One has been my favorite of the 36 or so classes I've taught here so far.

That's pretty great. My classes were...ok. Teaching freshmen second semester is tough because they feel like they're kings of the world after one semester. First semester is more fun because they're still learning the ropes and they're more receptive to new shit and such.

Well I'm days away from finishing my PhD coursework--I have a paper due Wednesday night and that's it for classes for me, forever. I've started to put together my reading list for my Exams, and after that it's dissertation time. Still three years to go, though.
Teaching-wise, I'm coming off my freshman comp rotation after this semester which I'm psyyyyched about (I'll be teaching literature again in the fall). I'm hoping to trade next time around so I don't ever again have to ask students to write a three-page paper about what it was like to learn to read in kindergarten (which is a departmental requirement). Trust me, I'm done with that.
