I saw the (an?) old version. Did not like it much--the pacing didn't sit well for me. It worked far better as a book. I don't think I like large periods of skipped time in movies, and Gatsby has those iirc (I'm not sure I've ever considered it in other movies, but I remember it really bothering me in Gatsby).

Actually, that's something about the Harry Potter movies that never struck me as right. I like the story, and am lazy so I'm just going to watch the movies (other things to spend my reading power on), but they just feel like they're jumping around in time sometimes, or large periods of time are skipped and I just feel dissatisfied about it.

Like with Gangster Squad, it looks too damn flashy and over stylized. I mean, I understand you want to get people to go to the theater (it's in 3D for pete sake) but come on. If you divert away from telling the classic story and try grabbing people with its form and style, then don't even bother making it. But studios and producers want to make their money and I can't stop them, so...

Although, I love the poster. Something out of Metropolis

Hollywood really blew a chance to use a young Lou Diamond Phillips as Kino in The Pearl.

Not at all what I expected. But I'm okay with that. I'll give it a shot.

I don't really have any interest in seeing it. I don't love the book, I think all of its power comes from Fitzgerald's writing, the story itself isn't particularly interesting, and it definitely doesn't lend itself well to the screen because it's just a lot of white people talking. Mreh.

I don't know what to think about this one. This was one of my favorite books in high school.

I can't wait to see all that early 20th century suave sophistication in 3D.

This.

that's probably why the original never worked for me. but i don't know, if this one is visually cool, i think i could get into it. cool visuals are the best.

Goddamn it. I was actually looking forward to seeing DiCaprio in this one, but the trailer makes it seem like the movie is going to blow balls. The Jack White version of Love is Blindness actually made me throw up a little. Fuck Hollywood.

:( That song was a big part of me liking the trailer.

i wasn't looking forward to this, but i think the trailer actually looks kind of cool and it might work in a weird way.

Well, they sure are not going for the subtle approach. I have no idea what to think of this. I recall the images in my mind after reading my favorite novel over five times being far different than this. It makes me wish I didn't like The Great Gatsby as much as I do. That's the only way I think I will be able to enjoy something with this much fluff.

I must have missed the part in the trailer where it said it was in 3D. Where did it say that?

To be honest, that poster is a fantastic example of branding. I wouldn't have imagined a poster for this novel being so damn cool and still be true to the spirit of it.
