All Beck is good in my book. Early Beck is no exception.
Not sure about this. i saw him in 1996 solo. Pretty terrible. Got an audience member up to do beatbox on a song. Not good. At least the Foo Fighters and Sonic Youth were there to save the day!

I love Beck. I have seen him live more then any other band (10 plus times I think), and I've never seen a bad show. Some better then others but not a bad one in the lot. Odelay still stands as his best work in my opinion, but the early real raw Beck stuff is very cool in its own right. Stereopathetic is great. One foot in the grave is fantastc too. Satan Gave Me to Taco is one of my favorite early tracks. Later albums like Mutations and Midnight Vultures are genius too. Beck is one of my all times favorites for good reason!

I like Stereopathetic. Thats about as early as I've ventured.
Stereopathetic, One Foot In The Grave, Mellow Gold & the bootleg box set I mentioned are all from the same period (1993-1994), and are as "early" as it gets. Beck spent the better part of a year going from studio to studio and working with various different producers, releasing the results on various different labels around the same time. The start of the Odelay sessions in late 1994 marked the beginning of his second phase.

Beck song tournament anyone???
In.
One Foot In The Grave's all right. His early stuff is really rough, but fairly intriguing, although I tend to think that Odelay was his shining moment.

Yeah, a Beck tourney would be pretty hott.
I'd gladly participate but I don't have the time to set it up or run the damn thing. If someone wants to take the reigns and run with it, I'm in for sure.
BECK & McSWEENEY’S PRESENT BECK HANSEN'S SONG READER COMING IN DECEMBER 2012
In the wake of Modern Guilt and The Information, Beck’s latest album comes in an almost-forgotten form—twenty songs existing only as individual pieces of sheet music, never before released or recorded. Complete with full-color, heyday-of- home-play-inspired art for each song and a lavishly produced hardcover carrying case (and, when necessary, ukelele notation), the Song Reader is an experiment in what an album can be at the end of 2012—an alternative that enlists the listener in the tone of every track, and that’s as visually absorbing as a dozen gatefold LPs put together.
The songs here are as unfailingly exciting as you’d expect from their author, but if you want to hear “Do We? We Do,” or “Don’t Act Like Your Heart Isn’t Hard,” bringing them to life depends on you.
BECK HANSEN'S SONG READER features original art from Marcel Dzama (who created the imagery for Beck’s acclaimed Guero), Leanne Shapton, Josh Cochran, Jessica Hische, and many more, as well as an introduction by Jody Rosen (Slate, The New York Times) and a foreword by Beck. The package measures 9.5” x 12.5” with 108 pages comprising 20 individual full-color song booklets—18 featuring original lyrics, and 2 instrumentals—with covers from more than a dozen different artists.
