I was lucky enough to see them last year at Summer Fest. They made believers out of just about every music fan at Eleanor Tinsley Park that hot June evening. RIP

Never got into these guys but I had a friend (well, still have) who was all about them (well, probably still is) and everything I've ever heard from them I've liked.

Really, really glad I finally caught on to this band while they were still active and got to see them a few times. They are an American musical treasure, and perhaps the most underrated band in history. The sheer amount of musical ground they covered is awe-inspiring...any band that can go from thrash like Stroker Ace or It's Gonna Be a Long Night to the sweetness of Cold Blows the Wind or The Mollusk to the random hilarity of songs like Pollo Asado or Flies On My Dick to dead-on classic country found on 12 Golden Country Greats to ridiculous overblown '70s jams like Woman and Man to the island groove of Bananas and Blow...really, do I need to go on?
These guys are students of modern music at the highest level, paying homage to all the bands and genres they love with impeccable accuracy, a level of songwriting most musicians can only dream up, and a healthy dose of humor combined with never taking things too seriously. Ever wonder why Push Th' Little Daisies was an MTV hit? Because under all those weird, pitch-shifted vocals is a goddamn catchy pop song:
None of it could have been done without Gener's voice and Dean's guitar playing. What started out as a couple high school kids fucking around with a four-track recorder turned into a 25-year experiment nobody--maybe even the two of them--could have envisioned. Thank you WEEN for such an amazing run and for your immeasurable contributions to the art of music. Boognish risin' y'all.
I'll leave ya with a few of my many, many favorites.
Take Me Away
Buckingham Green
Baby Bitch
Don't Laugh (I Love You)
The Stallion Pt. 3
Wayne's Pet Youngin'
Pollo Asado
It's Gonna Be (Alright)
I'll Be Your Jonny On The Spot
The Argus

i know quebec isn't much loved, and the song captain probably even less so, but i saw them a handful of times and their performance of captain at lollapalooza a few years back is one that will always be a favorite. sadly it's not on youtube, so here's another one from earlier that year.

I love WEEN. I have seen them a ton of times (maybe more then any band. Either them or Beck.), and have had the good fortune of meeting the guys a few times and even spending a little time with the band after shows. My first Ween show was at the Minnesota Zoo outdoor Amphitheater (which only seats a couple hundred people) and it was amazing. I was about 17 years old. Gene talked about taking 'shrooms a short time before coming on to the stage. They played and awesome show highlighted by an amazing version of "Buenos Tardes Amigo" in which Deaner's solo melted my face off. They finished the show with an equally amazing version of "Let Me Lick Your Pussy" and I was majorly hooked. I was a fan before that show but I was a mega fan ever since. I will always be thankful for all the great times I've had because of the band and I am so glad we will always have the music. Very sad to see them call it quits after 25 years of painting the town brown.
