I've been trying to add some non DC/Marvel stuff. Outside of Conan whose on Dark Horse I'm not too familiar with other companies. I read the first five issues of Ferrals from Avatar comics. It's about werewolves and it's kinda dumb but enjoyable enough to keep reading.

really, alan scott is your big gay announcement?

not even in the "real" world of your comics. this is your big break through?

it seems like DC is doing everything to catch up to marvel in terms of popularity.

dc had the elseworlds title but marvel stomped it with the ultimate line so DC reboots it's whole universe to the neew 52

marvel has had northstar gay for a decade now.....and he is even getting married in the latest issues of astonishing xmen, and this is what you come back with?

image has/had a couple books i liked (fell being my favorite)
archaia looked great w/ Mouse Guard
lastly, vertigo (i know it's DC) has been pretty consistently good for a few years now (DMZ & Scalped were enjoyable for me).

i couldn't afford the habit recently, so i've fallen out of touch and these recommendations could be all wrong.

I'm actually dropping Earth 2 after I sell this issue on ebay. Should I pick up Dial H in it's place or World's Finest?

Who should DC have chosen to be gay?

I was actually expecting it to be Green Lantern (not Alan though. I was thinking Hal). Anyone remember in the early 90's lots of Green Lantern comics with pro gay/lesbian ads?

I should clarify my earlier comment too. I'm not dropping Earth 2 because I have an issue with gay characters. I just want nothing to do with Marvel and DC needing to 1up each other to this degree. Do something fresh or new with a new character.
I'm assuming DC has has tried new gay characters and they didn't sell well?

Good call there with Kyle. Aquaman is with Mera and they are doing anything they can to make Aquaman more mainstream. Actually. arent they trying to make a tv show or movie with him eventually? Making him gay could have gone either way. It could have been a huge positive or a total disaster and they probably didn't want to risk it.

I'm thinking that this is more of a last minute decision and that is why they are going with a lesser know character but someone with name recognition. Smart move, but as an original Alan Scott fan, I don't think I'll be supporting this issue with my money. Bummer cause I was really really really looking forward to this series.

I guess I just don't really see this as a one up. Northstar has been "out" since the 90's. Yeah they are having him get married but I can't believe it will lead to a long term uptick in sales. Northstar is still a lame character. DC already has Batwoman who is gay so them having Alan Scott be gay isn't a first for them. It can't be Wally West cause there is no Wally West. It's established that Aquaman like girls. Kyle could work though he's really no more well known to the general public than Alan Scott. Plus Kyle's comic takes place almost exclusively off world I don't see where they could fit in a relationship for him unless it's an alien one. All the really big players have long established relationships with members of the opposite sex. With Earth 2 there really are no rules so doing it there makes sense to me.

Didn't Kyle Rayner have a girlfriend? The one that was famously stuffed in a fridge?

that is correct, but DC pretty much rebooted their universe so they are starting fresh....

So, been enjoying some comics on the tablet and this tends to be my running order at night:

1) Sandman
2) Aliens
3) Hallraiser (tend to do more multiples here)
.. tired...
4) Grimm Fairy Tales

This run ought to take a while plus I really just want to look and not contemplate by the time I'm fairly tired but really enjoying chilling out to these.

hey, peeps- you have any memory of a graphic novel out of the 80s (late 80s) that was called Flying Toasters or something?
really decent artwork, fairly surreal... I don't remember the story line at all but they were put out in a glossy cover paperback format...
