Can someone rank is albums for me? I'm really feeling Love is Hell...how is Rock and Roll? Sucks?

Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights aren't bad either.

i find it kind of hard to rank them since there's a lot of big differences between them. my favorites right now are cold roses and love is hell.

a lot of people prefer heartbreaker and gold. JCN is in the middle somewhere. most people say 29 and RNR are the worst but lately i've been appreciating 29 a lot more. RNR is cool is you like the musical style. its kind of glam.

out of the whiskeytown stuff you cant go wrong with strangers almanac and faithless street.

out of the unreleased stuff, suicide handbook and 48 hours. a lot of people prefer these two albums to any of his released stuff.

demolition is also really underrated. some of my fav songs on there.

It always kind of sounded like a Leonard Cohen song to me, especially with those lyrics, the backup singers and the reference to the Chelsea Hotel.

I'd bump up 29 a few slots, bump down Ashes & Fire a few slots, bump up JCN 1 slot. I'd also swap Heartbreaker and Cold Roses.

Only reason Heartbreaker is so close to Cold Roses is because it's his first solo record and the significance of it and his lack of relative fame, etc, make it so raw. But judging just the quality of the record, Cold Roses wins hands down.

no way does heartbreaker flow like cold roses. plus cold roses is 2x as long w/ 90% good songs!

My view contrasts from many of the posters on here. I love the stuff with the Cardinals. It's incredibly easy to listen to. Sometimes I listen to 29 or Heartbreaker, and it feels like hard work because it can be so morose. Ranking is very difficult, but Cold Roses is my favourite record, followed by Love Is Hell and Gold.

If you wanted somewhere to start, I would recommend Love is Hell, Gold and Easy Tiger. They represent the range of music you'll come across. Everyone else's comments are fairly accurate, it can change. I find it's easier to find tracks I enjoy from each album, maybe 2-5 each, and to playlist them.

I love Cardinology. III/IV is totally passable to a passive fan, however. Rock N Roll is a little too simple, and Demolition kind of feels like its lacking two or three strong tracks. Ashes & Fire is great, but it's like a Rock N Roll version of Heartbreaker.

Steer clear of his side material (things like Orion, the metal projects etc.) but if you find yourself enjoying his music, definitely find Darkbreaker and 48 Hours.
