For me, Nirvana and AIC lost some of their appeal when I grew older. I think PJ and Soundgarden have a more "mature" sound and universal themes. When I was 16, Descendents and Minor Threat were my favorite bands. I don't have a single Descendents album anymore, while MT/Fugazi remain one of my favorite. Growing up sucks. I'm boring now.

PJ (longevity) Nirvana (would've had such an epic fourth album if they put some of their best rarities on it) AiC (so amazing but I can only take so much of their stuff before I start to feel down, y'know?) Soundgarden (as good as any really, I play the cop out, 'personal taste' card)
Love Battery's my favorite under-the-radar of the Seattle scene. They had a psychedelic edge. Really miss 'em.

I actually grew tired of Nirvana after a year and a half, I don't listen to them much anymore.

Pearl Jam - Not even a close second, just too much talent in this band. Soundgarden - Like them even more now than back in the day. Alice in Chains - Layne was so awesome. Nirvana - OVER..............RATED.............BIG.........................FUCKING............TIME
Oh and Seasons alone, redeems Cornell's entire solo career.
Agreed. I don't much care for Soundgarden, but I love love love this one song. Otherwise, I think Chris Cornell seems like a cool guy, but his music (and Soundgarden's) never did much for me. I really, really tried back in the 90s, but nope. It never happened. I liked AIC a lot back in the day, but I can't listen to them anymore. I just can't take it seriously.
I have a lot of affection for Nirvana, but I never listen to them. Occasionally I'll listen to a few tracks from Unplugged, but otherwise, I just don't seek it out.
I have to admit: I don't really think much of "grunge" as a genre, so it's funny that PJ is my favorite band. They always sounded really different to me.

I can't not rate Nirvana at number one: there's probably no band that's had a bigger impact on me, personally. They were the first band I was utterly obsessed with and I can't imagine I would ever have picked up a guitar were it not for them - as well as that, I discovered tons of cool bands by checking out bands they were into and bands they played shows with. Pearl Jam, well, yeah - number two, no question. Alice in Chains have one record I really love (Dirt) and a bunch of other scattered great tunes, by that measure Soundgarden easily have them beat by having multiple fantastic albums and a very strong catalogue in general.
Nirvana Pearl Jam Soundgarden Alice in Chains
This is how I feel, except PJ and Soundgarden flip depending on what I'm listening to at the moment. Right now it's Soundgarden but for 2001-2006 or so, it was definitely PJ. Nirvana is definitely #1 for the same reasons as you and AIC is #5 for me - Mudhoney comes in ahead of AIC.
