Easy enough down here tbh. If you get a decent summer anyway. The hardest part is getting them before the doggie. She ate half of last years before I even knew they were there!

Along with fly fishing, carpentry, learning Italian, sail boating, and among other things, gardening is on the list. I want my own green house, with exotic plants. Anthony Hopkins in Amistad inspired me.
I grow a lot of stuff in pots and containers. It's easier to manage and (hopefully) easier to keep the slug and snails off. Our garden soil isnt great, so I get bags of compost from the garden centre to fill them. Also, if I'm using a lot of herbs, I can drag them right up to the kitchen door.

Pots and containers make it easier to move them to more appropriate spots too. Nothing worse than planting outdoors in a specific place and then the plant doesn't do well there.

I love gardening. In theory. In reality, the slugs have eaten everything, three fence panels have blown down, and our soil is like clay. Can't even get a pitchfork in it. ...But I like the idea of pruning and growing seeds. Unfortunately I don't get any chance to do any pruning.

That's another thing! I grew salad on our window in doors, AND FOUND SLUGS IN IT! I grew it from seed and used compost! What the hell?!

I had to cut back a tree I the garden so I made an arch with the cut offs. Gonna get some little lights and string em through it. I like it. This is all tightened up now. It's surprisingly sturdy.

I must have planted thirty sunflowers right when I bought the house. The moles and squirrels ate every damn batch of seeds I planted.
I have gotten some of moles, but i really have a huge mole problem. about two acres of yard, and moles are everywhere. Anybody got good tips for eradicating moles without using grub killer?

Moles as in the little blind rodent fellas? I think there's sone safe humane deterrents you can get. Putting alternative sources of food down for them really only encourages them so don't do that, it'll attract more of the buggers but there are safe easy ways to be rid of them. I'm in Europe so the methods/products are probably different but I'd say google it and so some reading. Here, it's ants, slugs and birds that go for the sunflowers.

Yeah, come fall I'm buying a shit ton of pots and potting my sunflowers in the spring to keep the damn squirrels and moles from getting them. I actually want the sunflowers to ATTRACT the birds.
I closed on the house right on the edge of when you needed to have seeds for most late blooming flowers in the ground, so potting wasn't a viable option.
I'll be tearing up the sod for my kickass herb/spice/fruit/vegetable garden in the fall for next year.
My other plans for the fall involve planting lilacs, 4 magnolia trees, two cherry trees, two crabapples, and two apple trees.
