Vedder’s signature vocal move, ritualistic small mammal yowling: yeah-hah-uhhh-ah-uhhh-ooh-oh-oh-oooh-yeah-grrr-mammer-jammer-ah-hah-huh-oh-yeah-oooh-Jeremy-Jeremy-uh-uh-ooh-eah-huh-hibble-dop-deeble-dibble-dop-yeah-hah!
The guy has a point here.
I don't know, do these things bug you? Given the choice between a passionate defence of something a writer loves vs an unhinged hate-filled diatribe about something they completely despise, I'll take the latter every time. It's more fun.

No he doesn't. It's hyperbolized caricature that's applicable only to a small fraction of Vedder's output. What "point" is he making, exactly? Anything that hasn't been articulated about 700,000 times before?

The guy's preferences don't bother me; I couldn't care less what his or anyone else's list of most hated bands is. But I've lost interest in these kinds of easy wind-up articles, and don't think they belong in proper publications. As I imagine most people here also do, I know popular music well enough to know the standard objections to most of these bands, which is pretty much the extent of what this guy has to say. Michael Stipe is "off-key." Eddie Vedder "mumbles." The Beach Boys write all their songs about cars and girls. Really--great stuff there, guy.
I think internet vitriol is just too predictable to be funny anymore. What this guy says about Oasis--"Britishness stripped down to its worst and most cynical cliches"--is pretty much what I'd say about him as a music writer, at least based on this piece. It's music journalism's equivalent to the supermarket tabloid.

I still find it weird that people actually get upset when one of their favourite bands gets insulted in a lame article like this.
I find it weird that Kat locked the thread with the link to this article over at the official Pearl Jam forum. I find it weird that anything negative said about the band on another website will get locked over at the official Pearl Jam forum. Instead of having an open discussion about why people agree or disagree, they pretend like it never happened. A bit fascist, if you ask me.

So lame. Pearl Jam image management. That's like making a documentary about a band and only doing interviews with the current members of the band...and perhaps Chris Cornell.
