Well, I suppose I outta be following them on instagram, then.
The day was new when I sat down next to my grandfather, who was at his end. I studied the deep set creases in his face, smelled his tobacco and alcohol-stained breath, and thought about the parks. I pictured silver stroked slides and rubbery swings. I listened to his rattling breath and hoped that those things would see some use before the sun set.
"I remember," he rasped, back arching in confusion, or pain. I leaned in close.
"I know, grandpa," I lied. "I know."
"I remember Twitter." Spittle flecked out, coating his lower lip and chin.
Maybe it's just me...just my need for acceptance and praise...but a flutter of disappointment rippled through me. "Okay, grandpa." I didn't bother to point out that I didn't know what Twitter is...or, more likely, was.
"I talked to the Mynabirds," he insisted. Shit. I knew my grandfather was being stripped of everything that mattered...everything that made him the man I loved...but I didn't know it was that bad.
"What's a Mynabird?" I asked, humoring him.
"Laura," he gasped, reverent or uncertain. "Laura."
"Laura Mynabird?" I couldn't hide the condescension.
"No!" he was shaking, twitching in his bed like a sex toy. Fuck. I glanced back at the doorway. I didn't really care if he seizures...the old fuck is kind of a ballbag...I just didn't want to get blamed for upsetting him. "Laura!" he quaked, knees cracking and hips churning. "Laura the Mynabird!"
"Yeah," I said slowly. "Sorry. I...forgot."
"She...ran...the....Instagram!" he closed his eyes, breathing evening out. "She ran the Instagram."
I blinked. "The Instagram?" I blurted out. "Really? Grandpa?!" He wasn't waking up, so I gave up and leaned back.
Wow. My grandfather, who never amounted to anything at all...who was actually hospitalized twice with masterbation related injuries...knew the lady who ran the Instagram.

Quick question, quick question... when you fuck up on Twitter - like misspell a word or leave a word out completely, something like that - do you delete the entire tweet and repost a correct(ed) version of the same? Or do you just leave that defective tweet hanging out forever and just send another tweet that more accurately reflects what you were trying to get across? Example, Kelly Oxford tweeted:
@kellyoxford
"He doesn't very good, right?" Bea (age 4) hears Bob Dylan.
She did not delete or edit the tweet. She simply posted this two minutes later:
@kellyoxford
"He doesn't sing very good, right?" Bea (age 4) hears Bob Dylan.
