I saw this man live last night at the Tennessee Theatre(which is the most beautiful fucking venue I have ever seen a show at) and was really impressed. I'm suprised there aren't more fans here given Earle's politcal stances. I believe he's even opened a few shows for PJ? Anyway, it was great show. Earle went on around 9 and played untill well after 11. He spoke a couple times about the election, which caused a few in the audience to walk out(this is in Tennessee, remember). I was only really familiar with his older material going in(Copperhead Road, Guitar Town) but his new stuff is really good and I'll probably pick up a few albums in the near future. I really liked "Christmas in Washington" in paticular.
Anyway, just wondering if there are any other fans here?

I don't listen to any band based on political stances. I listen to them based on their music.

I think politically he is passionate but myopic, however I love his music. Guitartown is one of the first songs I learned to play. He's funny as hell in person too.

Steve Earle will forever be one of favorite artists, both for his musical skills and political views.
I'll never forget the Vote For Change show in Asheville, when "Rich Man's War" was played over the speakers just prior to PJ coming on stage. That song is one of may favorites, and it gave me chill bumps to hear it in that setting.

There is really good country music out there. Besides Earle, you've got Neko Case, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, freaking Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, many others that are not being played on country stations. I never liked Country until I heard some artists that are not beholdened to Nashville.

Yeah, I like a lot of country music too. It always bothers me when I see people dismiss something just because it is slapped with the "country" label.

I'd be curious for some song recs. I got the Jerusalem album way back when it came and liked it a lot. The title song is still one of the best things I've ever heard, and a frequent mainstay of my ipod. But the follow up (Revolution Starts Now? Is that it?) did very little for me.
