Melancholia was pretty excruciating.
I loved that movie.
I would say "Well I like Zach Snyder, so we're even", but that would only invite the inevitable "that figures" comments from the peanut gallery. I can't risk the intellectual high ground just because i enjoyed Dawn, 300 and The Watchmen.
I try not to judge people on the entertainment they like. I realize a lot of supersmart people like Snyder's movies. I can't help but think I'm watching a superlong cut scene out of a really good Blizzard game when I watch his movies. I'm also a little pissed that Duncan Jones wasn't chosen to direct "Man of Steel," because that would have been amazing. I realize I like a lot of super slow, depressing-as-fuck movies. Lars von Trier seems to make all his characters as unpleasant as possible. I love his movies, but can't say they are enjoyable. Although, I enjoyed the hell out of "Dancer in the Dark."
yeah, Melancholia isnt a bad movie. it accomplishes what he set out to do, i just dont know why anyone would want to experience bored depression in real time.
but speaking of Kirsten Dunst, i want to change my answer.
Elizabethtown is the worst movie ever. nothing else comes close. the most contrived, derivative, cheesy mess I've ever seen. Orlando Bloom makes Keanu Reeves look like a real person. Dunst is insufferable as the token quirky pixie dream girl. Susan Surandon and that stupid tap dance scene? jesus fucking christ.
