Music Radar predicts: “Soundgarden release their album, fans go ballistic, rock’n'roll reigns again. A few months later Pearl Jam’s new album comes out, and while at the height the tour will be announced for mid-2013. When tickets go on sale it’ll be mayhem.”

matt aint doing double drum duty, plus, they can each sell out venues on their own (pearl jam at least), why split the paychecks?
You really think Pearl Jam is/would sell out most venues still? I think their absence in the middle of the country for the past 8 years or so is in large part due to the face that tickets weren't selling, despite announced "sell outs"

agree but clearly they don't care about any of that. i guess i just can't see them splitting a paycheck w/ soundgarden and matt doing double duty. ticket prices wouldn't be $150-$200 each, they would still be $100 or whatever.

Well, not if each band does a 1 hour set.

Oustide of the Northeast, North West and California, PJ since 2006 has really eroded the other areas (Good Job Kelly!) This is the only way they would sell out the south and mid west.

Yeah, but as fast as matt makes all the songs, that still like 27 song set.
Were you the caller that made Matt cry on the AET radio show?

Whatever keeps Dave Grohl away from a microphone gets my vote.

I think its hard either way. I don't think Matt could do two tours with SG and PJ. Neither could he get through 40+ songs a night. He's freaking 49 and the oldest member. I guess all other former drummers are out of the question? IMO he was always a better fit with Soundgarden.

I think the band being overestimated here is Soundgarden...they weren't playing HUGE places on their last tour...I saw them at the same venue in Chicago at which Arcade Fire sold out 4 nights...
Unless Soundgarden's new album is waaaaaaaay more popular than I expect it to be, I think a joint tour where they play 2 nights at a big place per city would work very well. I mean, consider this - Pearl Jam is good for goldish records at this point (500,000), do you really think Soundgarden's new album will sell more than a Pearl Jam record? I don't, and that's nothing against them, there's just not going to be a "Just Breathe" on their album, I'm pretty sure...Pearl Jam plays the size venue that they do because of their reputation as a live band, like a lesser DMB/Phish/Grateful Dead. Soundgarden does not have this type of live reputation nor should they.
How to manage Matt's physical wear and tear? Simple. Opening band > Pearl Jam 90 min > 5 song Ed solo set > 5 song Chris solo set > Soundgarden 90 min > Temple encore. On 2 night stands or whenever they choose, it could be opener > Soundgarden > Chris > Ed > Pearl Jam > Temple. Matt would have no problem doing 3 hours a night with an hour and a half break (songs + setup) in the middle.
I would gladly pay $120/ticket if that was the format, especially if it was only 30 min or less of new stuff per band.
