Here is the short film they release with Undun.... what great album...im really surprised on how they use their soul influences so well and mixed them with r&b, dubstep, some jazz, some funk...

I saw them open for 311 a couple years back and they were really really good.
Seeing 311 in 1996 is understandable, but a couple years back? How was the show?
Very good. Definitely a band that still has a lot of fun playing and they mix up their set lists quite a bit. I think it was 2006? Im not sure. 311 is by no means the best music ever created, but a lot of the stuff up until the early 2000's is still a lot of fun and enjoyable to listen to.

i really like Undun. i thought the four-song instrumental suite at the end seemed like an odd way to end the album when i first heard it, but it's grown on me. Kool On and One Time are a few of my all-time favorite Roots songs. how about you?

Oh man, you've gotta give "How I Got Over" a listen. Far and away my favorite Roots album--very piano-driven, very tuneful, but blanketed in this aura of sadness that in my experience is rare in hip-hop. I think the only other hip-hop album I've ever heard that gives me that same feeling in my gut is Jay's "Reasonable Doubt," to which I'd compare "How I Got Over" if Jay and Black Thought didn't come from such different places as lyricists.
I think the Roots are one of those rare acts that are just now, twenty years in, getting around to creating their best material. Most of their stuff has been solid, but I think "How I Got Over" and "Undun" are a step above.
