Based on previously having some semblance of critical or fan respect then alienating them by putting out a record to get big and make cash.

My entry has to be Kings of Leon.

Take it to the Pearl Jam side, Captain Obvious. Other Bands and Pearl Jam are supposed to have a Chinese wall between them like investment banking and its brokerage operations.

Goo Goo Dolls - Name ruined them
Eagles - Greedy, artistically dried up fuckers who have only driven up the cost of every concert ticket
U2 - They are fucking awful when they try to write hits
Kiss - but that was always their business model
Green Day - slightly redeemed by not being greedy and keeping their ticket prices low

Bands that aren't sellouts but way too dollar driven.
The Beatles
The Doors
Jini Hendrix Estate
Nirvana Estate
Rolling Stones
The Who
Pearl Jam falls into this category

They really weren't. "Kerplunk" through "Insomniac" is a really strong run of suitably bratty and melodic punk, in the vein of Stiff Little Fingers, The Vandals and The Descendents. Granted, if you don't like that sort of music it's kind of a dealbreaker. But those early GD albums were pretty decent-- at the very least, a far cry from the ridiculous stadium-rock bombast they produce nowadays.

i kinda like that music...i dont compare green day to stiff little fingers at all though, STL are way better...i prefer punk music to be more hard than melodic, that´s true. I prefer bands like Dead Kennedys or X than green day or those california-punk-pop type of bands of the 90.
GD has some good songs, even from that "good" era...but they always seemed really fake to me, always trying too hard to be "real".

Green Day was pretty good for their first couple big label albums, but then their middle stuff like Nimrod screamed sell out. I actually thought American Idiot(the album itself) was a good step back in the right direction for them, but it got so big and popular that they ended up doubling down on the mass appeal.

I guess Kings of Leon. Some of the things they've been doing are pretty lame. Having said that, I still generally like their music and even their last album wasn't too bad at all.

Colplay is another one. I still hear 'Yellow', a song I really like, and wonder what the hell happened to put them here.

Agree about kol.I enjoy their post sellout tunes, but not as much as their old stuff.

Cold play is on par with the black eyed peas or Katy Perry now though. I don't even consider them a real band anymore.

Yep. Parachutes is a really good album but it's not the same band. That band was British indie rock with a melancholic edge. LOL
