d'you ever hit 17?
Sure, if it's soft 17 and the dealer has an 18.
whenever I hit 17, it seems everyone gets pissed as if I'm taking "their card" and so on....
I'd be pissed at you too.
I always won at black jack when i didn't know what the I was doing.
Play by the rules and it benefits everyone at the table. The dude sitting next to you is on your team. Don't be afraid to ask for advice.
but there's no rules at blackjack. only suggestions. HOUSE suggestions. I know when to double down, split, hold, spit, drink, etc. I'm just saying, once I learned the rules, I never won again.

The worst is when some asshole hits on 14 while the dealer is showing a 6.

Im not a gambler. I have played said game a few times over the years. Explain to me (please) why this is bad. From my limited experience ...as a single player......I would not hit and would hope for the dealer to bust..... but in a group...why does this upset you?
This is a serious question by the way. Im not a gambler for a reason

The odds are the dealer is going to bust. So if you hit and draw a 10 and then the dealer doesn't then you fucked over the entire table. Odds are you're going to draw a 10 too, and every 10 that is used decreases the odds that the dealer will draw one.

When a player doesn't play the way the majority would "expect" him or her to play, the perception is that they messed up the flow of the cards.
For instance, if I would hit 17, whether or not I then drew a three or a ten, the person to my right would grumble because he perceived that "THAT" particular card "SHOULD" have been his.....because technically, you don't hit 17
do you see what I mean?

Now if the dealer is showing a 6 and you have an 11 or less, well that's another story entirely.

And that dude would be right. If everyone played to maximize the odds against the dealer then that would have been his card.
