**The UFC had a terrible week losing both the main event and co-main event of UFC 153 set for October 13th in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. First it was revealed that Quinton Jackson had suffered an injury and is out of his fight with Glover Teixeira. Then a few hours later Jose Aldo was removed with a foot injury from his fight with Frankie Edgar for the Featherweight Title.

Yesterday the UFC announced three additional matchups on Wednesday to fill the gaps left by Aldo and Rampage's injuries.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (32-4) will make his return to the light heavyweight division in a three-round main event against Stephan Bonnar (14-7).

Meanwhile Brazilian light heavyweight prospect Glover Teixeira (18-2) will meet compatriot Fabio Maldonado (18-5).

Finally, former Pride heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-7-1) also offered to fight on the card after fully recovering from an arm injury suffered in his submission loss to Frank Mir last December. Nogueira has agreed to a heavyweight bout with Dave Herman (21-4).

The main event is certainly an unusual addition as Silva was not expected to fight again this year, while Bonnar has hinted at potentially retiring from the sport.

Nonetheless, Silva and Nogueira bring some much needed star power back to the pay-per-view card, which takes place Oct. 13 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Maldonado, who was expected to face Jorgen Kruth at UFC on FX 5 this month, was pulled out of the fight after Kruth announced his retirement. He was subsequently booked for a 205-pound bout with Cyrille Diabate at UFC 154 in Montreal, but with his bout against Teixeira now official, a replacement to fight Diabate in November has yet to be announced.

**After setting their viewership record last week MMA Uncensored Live is moving permanently to a 10pm EST start time on Spike TV and being expanded to one-hour. It seemed silly to keep the show at 11pm EST when Impact moved to 8-10pm and the wrestling crossover had worked very well for the show.

**After the World Series of Fighting was forced to drop Kurt Angle from their broadcast team they have announced Renzo Gracie will join Michael Schiavello and Bas Rutten on the team. Their debut show is November 3rd in Las Vegas.

**Here are the results from the UFC 152 card in Toronto last night in front of an announced crowd of 16,800 (the paid figure looks to be significantly less and lots of tickets were available before the show) and a live gate of $1,900,000:
*Kyle Noke over Charlie Brenneman by KO at 0:45 of Round 1
*Mitch Gagnon over Walel Watson by rear-naked choke at 1:09 of Round 1
*Seth Baczynski over Simeon Thoresen by KO at 4:10 of Round 1
*Marcus Brimage over Jimy Hettes by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Sean Pierson over Lance Benoist by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*T.J. Grant over Evan Dunham by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Vinny Magalhaes over Igor Pokrajac by armbar at 1:14 of Round 2
*Cub Swanson over Charles Oliveira by KO at 2:40 of Round 1
*Matt Hamill over Roger Hollett by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Michael Bisping over Brian Stann by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Demetrious Johnson over Joseph Benavidez by split decision (48-47, 47-48, 49-46) to become the first UFC Flyweight Champion
*Jon Jones over Vitor Belfort by submission at 0:54 of Round 4

**Here are the recipients of the $65,000 bonuses handed out after UFC 152:
*Fight of the Night – T.J. Grant Vs Evan Dunham
*Knockout of the Night – Cub Swanson
*Submission of the Night – Jon Jones

**Jon Jones had his right arm in a sling at the post fight press conference and there was speculation he could have nerve damage from the arm bar Belfort applied in the opening round that was secured very tight and Jones was lucky to escape the submission and had to continue the rest of the fight with his arm in a lot of pain.

**Here is the official statement that Showtime released regarding the cancellation of this Saturday’s Strikeforce event in Sacramento, California:

Without our headline fighter and main event or a marquee undercard, we reluctantly informed Strikeforce that we could not continue with plans for the telecast.

The timeline of the injury to Gilbert Melendez goes back to last week when Melendez was working with Jake Shields and popped his shoulder and alerted Sean Shelby of the injury. Strikeforce was planning to go ahead with the event and Josh Thomson (who was already fighting Caros Fodor on the card) volunteered to fight Pat Healy in the main event in a three or five-round main event but Showtime nixed the option and forced Strikeforce to cancel the show. From a marquee standpoint this was a one fight card but Showtime also has a hand in the match making and admitted in their statement that the undercard was not enough to put forth this event. Headliner Healy stated he spent $5,000 on his training camp for this fight. A number of the fighters have been paid at least something to compensate for the short notice of the cancellation and hopefully most of them will be put onto the November 3rd card, which is still being put together.

**Here is a picture Melendez sent out of his injured shoulder.

**The UFC is holding a press conference tomorrow at Noon EST in Montreal to officially announce UFC 154 for November 17th in Montreal, Quebec at the Bell Centre headlined by Carlos Condit Vs Georges St-Pierre for the Welterweight Championship. Tickets for the event go on sale tomorrow morning at 10am EST for Fight Club members, Friday morning for UFC Newsletter subscribers and Saturday morning to the general public. Fight Network will be carrying Thursday’s press conference live at Noon EST.

**Bellator 74 takes place Friday night to kick off Season 7 with the quarter-finals of their Welterweight tournament with the following opening round fights scheduled for Friday night:
*Jim Wallhead Vs Lyman Good
*Nordine Taleb Vs Marius Zaromskis
*Jordan Smith Vs Andrey Koreshkov
*Tim Welch Vs Michail Tsarev

**A light heavyweight bout between Joey Beltran and Anthony Perosh has been added to the UFC on FX 6 event on December 15th in Australia as part of the finale for The Smashes.

**The numbers for the latest season of TUF on FX dropped in Week 2 with 872,000 viewers and down from 947,000 viewers in Week 1.

**Jacob “Stitch” Duran was a guest on MMAjunkie Radio this past week and stated that UFC featherweight Charles Oliveira twisted his knee while warming up on Saturday for his fight with Cub Swanson and needed to be helped up the steps into the octagon for the fight. Oliveira was knocked out in the first round by Swanson, who earned the Knockout of the Night bonus. Interestingly enough Swanson’s coach Mike Winkeljohn was on The MMA Show podcast with Mauro Ranallo and stated that Swanson went into the fight with more than one injury.

**The World Series of Fighting promotion has announced their main event for their inaugural show on November 3rd with a heavyweight bout between Andrei Arlovski and Devin Cole. Arlovski last fought for One FC in August in a no contest with Tim Sylvia after Arlovski threw two illegal soccer kicks to the face of Sylvia. Cole has fought for Strikeforce in the past.

**Chael Sonnen is featured in a new promo for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia:

**Miguel Torres will be fighting Manuel Moraes on the November 3rd World Series of Fighting card in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card is scheduled to air on the NBC Sports Network with Michael Schiavello, Frank Shamrock and Renzo Gracie calling the action.

**The next Score Fighting Series event on October 19th headlined by Chris Horodecki Vs Kalvin Hackney from Sarnia, Ontario will be their first card to air on AXS TV in the U.S. and will be called by Michael Schiavello and Robin Black.

**Here is a great one-hour walk around New York with Ariel Helwani and Quinton Jackson:

**Today’s edition of The MMA Report is online featuring chats with Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp previewing this Saturday’s card from Kansas City and the positive word of mouth buzz the company has received and also Roots of Fight President Jesse Katz, whose videos and shirts you have likely seen. The show is up online at http://themmareport.podbean.com/2012/10 ... ct-4-2012/ and airs on TSN 1050 Toronto Friday nights at 11pm EST.

**CES MMA officials alerted us on Wednesday night that Dave Bautista was cancelling all his remaining interviews due to feeling under the weather and getting set for his MMA debut Saturday night in Providence, Rhode Island.

If Maldonado would have come back to beat Teixeira, that would have been fight of the night easily.

**Travis Browne expects to be out of action for 2-4 months following the torn hamstring he suffered in the opening minute of his bout against Antonio Silva this past Friday at the UFC on FX 5 card in Minneapolis.

**Jeremy Stephens will be appearing in Minnesota court on October 23rd to determine if he will be sent back to Iowa for further prosecution. The Hennepin County Detention Center has listed his bail at $100,000.

**Yves Edwards (who was to fight Jeremy Stephens this past Friday) has been booked to fight John Cholish on the undercard of the UFC on FOX 5 card on December 8th in Seattle, Washington.

**Shane Roller appeared on The MMA Show podcast with Mauro Ranallo this week and said he made the decision to retire after he was released by the UFC following his loss to Jacob Volkmann last Friday.

**Strikeforce has been forced to cancel their second show in a row with the official announcement that the November 3rd card in Oklahoma City has been scrapped. The card was littered with injuries to Frank Mir, Luke Rockhold and most recently Sara McMann that took out their top three fights. Scott Coker stated they were planning to load up their next card in January but lots of fighters were upset with this announcement including Daniel Cormier who found out through the media and reading online that they would not be fighting. Cormier has to be the most frustrated as he’s bound to Strikeforce for one more fight and just wants to get it over with so he can move to the UFC and take some important fights.

**UFC middleweight Jake Shields sent out a statement through his management company announcing that he tested positive for a banned substance following his victory over Ed Herman at UFC 150 in Denver, Colorado. The release noted he will be suspended for six-months but did not list what he tested positive for.

**UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones asked his followers on Twitter who they would like to see him fight next and a few hours later noted he is warming to the idea of fighting Chael Sonnen because of what his fans want even though Jones doesn’t feel he deserves a title shot.

**Here are the results from the UFC 153 card held Saturday night in front of 16,844 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janiero and a live gate of over $2,500,000:
*Cristiano Marcello over Reza Madadi by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
*Chris Camozzi over Luiz Cane by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Sergio Moraes over Renee Forte by rear-naked choke at 3:10 of Round 3
*Diego Brandao over Joey Gambino by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Gleison Tibau over Francisco Trinaldo by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Rony “Jason” Bezerra over Sam Sicilia by TKO at 4:15 of Round 3
*Demian Maia over Rick Story by rear-naked choke at 2:30 of Round 1
*Phil Davis over Wagner Prado by anaconda choke at 4:29 of Round 2
*Jon Fitch over Erick Silva by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Glover Teixeira over Fabio Maldonado by TKO (doctor’s stoppage) at the end of Round 2
*Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira over Dave Herman by armbar at 4:31 of Round 2
*Anderson Silva over Stephan Bonnar by TKO at 4:40 of Round 1

**Here are the $70,000 bonuses handed out after the card:
*Fight of the Night – Jon Fitch Vs Erick Silva
*Knockout of the Night – Rony “Jason” Bezerra
*Submission of the Night – Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

**UFC President Dana White was very high on the idea of a future fight between Anderson Silva and Jon Jones at the post fight press conference as was Joe Rogan on commentary. Both Silva and Jones have been very negative to the idea with neither wanting to fight the other. Silva has stated that because he trains with other light heavyweights such as Lyoto Machida, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (who competes in Strikeforce) that they should fight Jones ahead of him. White also stated that Silva has two fights remaining on his UFC contract.

**Bellator 77 next Friday night features the opening round of their Season 7 lightweight tournament from Reading, Pennsylvania.

**It was also announced by White last night that Alistair Overeem is expected to get the next Heavyweight Title shot against the winner of Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez, who will fight on December 29th at UFC 155. Overeem is currently under suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission until the end of December.

**The UFC has a bit of a break now until their November 10th card in Macau, China headlined by Rich Franklin Vs Cung Le. They will be airing the show live with the preliminary card kicking off at 7am EST that morning and the main card beginning at 9am EST. The following weekend is the UFC 154 card from Montreal headlined by Georges St-Pierre Vs Carlos Condit for the Welterweight Title.

**It was on this date in 2006 that Anderson Silva won the UFC Middleweight Title from Rich Franklin at UFC 64 in Las Vegas, Nevada and is the longest reigning UFC champion in company history with ten defences of his title.

**Following the positive drug test of Jake Shields following his win over Ed Herman at UFC 150 the fight has been changed to a no contest. Shields is under suspension for six-months and will be eligible to fight mid-February.

**UFC President Dana White spoke to the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday confirming that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones would defend his title against Chael Sonnen on April 27th of next year with both set to coach Season 17 of TUF to build up the fight. The move was made for a numerous amount of reasons one of the most being a shot to the arm of the TUF of franchise, which fell to an all-time low of 624,000 viewers the last week. It is also a timing issue as Jones arm injury at the hands of Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 is worse than originally thought and he would not have been able to fight before hand and putting him on TUF is the best utilization of Jones on the sidelines. It also represents a 180-degree turn Jones has made regarding Sonnen challenging for the title where he initially felt Sonnen was undeserving of a title shot (and maintains that stance) but the ice was melted last week when he took to Twitter asking his followers who he should fight next and later responded that he was warming to the idea of fighting Sonnen based on the Twitter responses he received.

There is the section of fans that are outraged that a middleweight coming off of a loss is going to be given a title shot (think back to Dana White calling the idea of Nick Diaz coming up to 185 to challenge Anderson Silva ridiculous). It’s the Sport Vs Business argument that will never be settled for a promotion that leaves and breathes on selling tickets, pay-per-views and stars but one that is digested as sport by consumers that look at MMA as akin to each and every other sport they watch. The fact is the TUF franchise is on life support right now and may fall even lower as the season continues with competition on Friday nights and Jones and Sonnen will bring a level of stardom the show has not seen in a long time.

Let us not forget that Jones is also a businessman and opening up that pay-per-view bonus for UFC 152 and contrasting it to his prior fight with Rashad Evans was probably that “light bulb” moment for Jones in realizing what draws and what doesn’t. The idea of fighting Lyoto Machida for a second time, Dan Henderson or the winner of Alexander Gustafsson Vs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua might sound appealing on paper to fans that order every single UFC show but leaves lots to be desired amongst the casual audience that hasn’t purchased a show since UFC 148. The big loser here is Dan Henderson, who would have made the most logical sense for the next title shot and now will likely have to fight at least one more time and at 42-years of age it’s a tougher pill to swallow when time is ticking.

**They held a conference call yesterday with Dana White, Jon Jones, Chael Sonnen and FX executive Chuck Saftler. They announced TUF will be leaving Friday nights but no new night has been confirmed with an announcement to come in the next 30-45 days with Saftler saying “Spike should watch their ass”.

**Dan Henderson posted the following comment regarding the announcement (and keep in mind he is very close with Chael Sonnen):

I guess I should just quit training to win fights and to be exciting for the fans and just go to shit talking school.

**Obviously with the announcement of the fight the UFC has cancelled the Chael Sonnen Vs Forrest Griffin fight, which was set for December 29th at UFC 155 in Las Vegas.

**This past Friday’s Bellator 76 event did 175,000 viewers featuring Eddie Alvarez Vs Patricky “Pitbull” Freire along with the quarter-finals of the featherweight tournament.

**In a bit of a quiet announcement Matt Hughes told the Iowa Daily Gate this week that although he hasn’t announced his retirement he now considers himself “fully retired”. Hughes has not fought since UFC 135 in September of 2011 where he was stopped by Josh Koscheck. Hughes dominated the UFC welterweight class from 2001-2006 until the succession by Georges St-Pierre including a stretch in that time period where Hughes went 19-1 with the long blemish during that run to B.J. Penn at UFC 46. Hughes fought St-Pierre on three occasions with a submission win at UFC 50 with 0:01 left in the opening round and the two would then rematch at UFC 65 in November 2006 in Sacramento with St-Pierre winning in convincing fashion and fought one final time at UFC 79 in December 2007 after Matt Serra had to pull out of a scheduled fight with Hughes and St-Pierre took his spot to become the interim champion and later challenge Serra. Hughes was also involved in one of the most successful UFC events in history when he fought Royce Gracie at UFC 60 with the two doing in excess of 600,000 buys (a record when it occurred for the UFC) in May 2006.

**Erick Silva posted a picture on Twitter having lunch with Jon Fitch and wrote:

Having lunch with Jon Fitch. Learn: become friends with someone who hit you.

**Dave Meltzer reports at MMAFighting.com that early estimates for UFC 153 headlined by Anderson Silva Vs Stephan Bonnar are in the 340,000 – 410,000 range.

**The UFC continues to add to the big year-end card with UFC 155 on December 29th in Las Vegas and have added the following fights:
*Ricardo Lamas Vs Erik Koch – this will almost definitely lead to the next contender at 145 providing the timing works out with Edgar scheduled to fight for the title next against champion Jose Aldo
*Brad Pickett Vs Eddie Wineland
*Byron Bloodworth Vs Erik Perez

**Coming off of this past Friday’s Bellator 77 card the following semi-final bouts have been made in the lightweight tournament set for Bellator 81 on November 16th in Kingston, Rhode Island:
*Rich Clementi Vs Marcin Held
*Ricardo Tirloni Vs Dave Jansen

**This week’s Bellator 78 card takes place from Fairborn, Ohio featuring the semi-finals of the welterweight tournament with Lyman Good Vs Michail Tsarev and Andrey Koreshkov taking on Marius Zaromskis.

**T.J. Dillashaw and Mike Easton have verbally agreed to fight on the undercard of the UFC on FOX 5 card on December 8th in Seattle, Washington. That is a really good fight at 135-pounds.

**Dustin Poirier will look to rebound from his loss to Chan-Sung Jung when he takes on TUF 12 winner Jonathan Brookins at the TUF 16 Finale on December 15th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

**Forrest Griffin is going to fight Phil Davis on the UFC 155 card on December 29th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Griffin was originally scheduled to fight Chael Sonnne but he was removed from the card when he was selected to coach against Jon Jones on the next season of TUF. Davis is coming off a strong submission victory over Wagner Prado this past weekend at UFC 153.

**Taping for TUF 17 with Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen begins on Monday October 29th and will go for six-weeks and debut in January.

**UFC lightweight Jeremy Stephens is out on bail right now and will return to court on October 23rd and has released the following video statement:

**Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports that the UFC initially offered Quinton Jackson the fight with Chael Sonnen and to coach on TUF 17 but Jackson turned it down. Jackson confirmed this and said he didn’t want to fight someone like Sonnen who would get on top and “hump him”. Jackson said he wants interesting fights and specifically mentioned fights with Glover Teixeira, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Forrest Griffin (the latter two being losses he has wanted to avenge for a long time) before he retires. It’s amazing how much money he chose to leave on the table with Sonnen and impossible to take seriously the next time you hear Jackson complain about money when the biggest money he could make right now was the fight with Sonnen after a season of TUF building it up.

**The UFC is working towards a middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Vitor Belfort for the rumoured January card in Brazil. A strong win by Bisping would have to put him at the front of the line at 185 for a potential fight with Anderson Silva in the summer if the Georges St-Pierre fight doesn’t happen.

**Stephen Thompson has suffered a knee injury in training and he has been removed from the UFC 154 card on November 17th where he was to fight Besam Yousef.

**The UFC has announced that Jose Aldo will defend his Featherweight Title against Frankie Edgar on February 2nd at UFC 156 in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Super Bowl weekend card. It’s noteworthy that they have stated this will be UFC 156 meaning there will not be a numbered show in Brazil in January as originally rumoured and will give the company five-weeks in between pay-per-view events with UFC 155 taking place December 29th.

**UFC President Dana White confirmed to Ariel Helwani that Stephan Bonnar has retired following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 153 last month.

The card is headlined by ex-UFC fighters Efrain Escudero and Tyson Griffin and features the siblings of two well known fighters in Chidi Njokuani and Sergio Pettis in separate bouts as well as American wrestling standout Steve Mocco fighting on the preliminary card.

**The World Series of Fighting card set for Saturday night in Las Vegas will be airing live in Canada on Fight Network at 10:30pm EST with the undercard airing on Sherdog.com. The following fights have been announced for the main card:
*Andrei Arlovski Vs Devin Cole
*D.J. Linderman Vs Anthony Johnson
*Marlon Moraes Vs Miguel Torres
*Tyson Steele Vs Gregor Gracie
*Tyrone Spong Vs Travis Bartlett

**A bout between Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and Besam Yousef at UFC 154 in Montreal later this month has been scratched. First Thompson was hurt and pulled out with Matthew Riddle stepping in as a replacement and now Yousef is also out and John Maguire will fight Riddle on the November 17th event.

**Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum have been named coaches for the second season of TUF Brazil and the two are expected to fight in June at the end of the season.

**Kyle Noke is injured and off of the UFC on FX 6 card on December 15th in Australia. Mike Pierce will take the vacated slot and take on Seth Baczynski.

*T.J. Grant Vs Matt Wiman

**UFC President Dana White stated today that the gate for UFC 154 is already at $3,100,000. Tickets are not sold out at the Bell Centre but over 14,000 tickets have been sold.

**The debut of World Series of Fighting drew 198,000 viewers on the NBC Sports Network this past Saturday night. The company has announced their next card will be January 26th, which falls on the same night as the UFC on FOX 6 card and I could see being moved to avoid the competition that night.

**Bellator 79 drew 220,000 viewers this past Friday night on MTV2 and was their highest number of the current season. The show featured Richard Hale stopping Thiago Santos in the opening round of their Heavyweight tournament semi-final and Shabulat Shamhalaev stopping Mike Richman in the semi-finals of the Featherweight tournament.

**The UFC has stated that Urijah Faber will fight on the February 2nd Super Bowl weekend card in Las Vegas but an opponent has yet to be announced. Faber last fought in July at UFC 148 where he dropped a decision to Renan Barao for the Interim Bantamweight Title.

**TUF also made a strong rebound tying their season high mark of 1,100,000 viewers for this past Friday’s episode. The show featured Jon Manley submitting James Chaney but the big draw was Julian Lane going crazy in the house, which was promoted on the commercials and also featured the coach’s challenge with Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson.

**Anderson Silva is going to be at the Bell Centre on November 17th for UFC 154 and likely do some sort of challenge to Georges St-Pierre if he wins that night.

**The UFC has added the following fights to the UFC on FOX 6 card on January 26th in Chicago at the United Center with these bouts scheduled for the undercard and not the FOX broadcast:
*Clay Guida Vs Hatsu Hioki (this will be Guida’s featherweight debut and looks like a hell of a fight on paper)
*Mike Russow Vs Shawn Jordan
*Eric Koch Vs Ricardo Lamas (another great featherweight fight and this one was moved to this card from the original plan of putting this on at UFC 155 on December 29th)

**Strikeforce looks to be targeting a January 12th date for their next card and have promised it would be a loaded one with just about every fighter on the roster ready to fight with no shows since August. That would mean between the UFC and Strikeforce there will be cards January 12th, 19th, 26th and February 2nd with four weekends in a row of shows so the pace sure isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The Strikeforce card is scheduled to feature Luke Rockhold defending the Middleweight Title against Lorenz Larkin and Ariel Helwani reports that Nate Marquardt will defend the Welterweight Title on the same card against Tarec Saffiedine.

**TMZ was the first to report that Strikeforce will be shutting its doors after its January 12th event in Oklahoma City and that Ronda Rousey will become the first female to enter the UFC. This will have lots of ramifications with the positive being a lot of great fights being able to be made now and promoting a potential fight between Rousey and Cris “Cyborg” Santos on a big platform such as FOX or on a pay-per-view event. The biggest losers are a sizeable portion of the Strikeforce roster, who will not be absorbed by the UFC. There are roughly 80 fighters under contract to Strikeforce and you’re talking about a bloated UFC roster already without the additions of the likes of Gilbert Melendez, Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold, Nate Marquardt and Josh Thomson, who I see as a shoe-ins to be brought in.

**The company will go out with a big show with three title fights on their final card and Cormier fulfilling his deal to Showtime and fighting one last time. Here is the current card for January 12th in Oklahoma City:
*Gilbert Melendez Vs Pat Healy for the Lightweight Title
*Nate Marquardt Vs Tarec Saffiedine for the Welterweight Title
*Luke Rockhold Vs Lorenz Larkin for the Middleweight Title
*Daniel Cormier Vs Dion Staring

**The Nevada State Athletic Commission announced on Friday that they conducted out of competition drug tests for both Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson in preparation for their TUF 16 Finale event and both passed their tests.

**Here are the results from the UFC on FUEL 6 event from earlier today in Macau in front of 8,415 and a gate of $1,300,000 at the Cotai Arena:
*Riki Fukuda over Tom DeBlass by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*John Lineker over Yasuhiro Urushitani by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Alex Caceres over Motonobu Tezuka by split decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Takeya Mizugaki over Jeff Hougland by unanimous decision (30-25, 30-27, 30-27)
*Jon Tuck over Tiequan Zhang by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Takanori Gomi over Mac Danzig by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Dong Hyun Kim over Paulo Thiago by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)
*Thiago Silva over Stanislav Nedkov by arm-triangle choke at 1:45 of Round 3
*Cung Le over Rich Franklin by KO at 2:17 of Round 1

**The following $40,000 bonuses were handed out after the show:
*Fight of the Night – Takanori Gomi Vs Mac Danzig
*Knockout of the Night – Cung Le
*Submission of the Night – Thiago Silva

**The UFC has announced a return to the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan for next March. Dong-Hyun Kim says he wants a rematch with Demian Maia on that card following his win over Paulo Thiago yesterday.

**Here are the main card results from the Bellator 80 card on Friday night in Hollywood, Florida:
*Joe Warren over Owen Evinger by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Alexander Volkov over Vinicius Queiroz by TKO at 4:59 of Round 1 in the semi-finals of the Heavyweight tournament
*Rad Martinez over Wagnney Fabiano by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) in the semi-finals of the Featherweight tournament
*Brett Cooper over Darryl Cobb by unanimous decision (30-27 all)

**Thiago Silva has failed yet another drug test, this time for marijuana metabolites found in his system in his post fight urinalysis. Silva’s win over Stanislav Nedkov from two-weeks ago in Macau has been turned into a No Contest with Silva taking a six-month suspension and agreeing to take drug rehabilitation. The testing and penalties were issued by the UFC due to no athletic commission in Macau but have noted that Silva will not be fined for the positive drug test.

**Joe Rogan addresses comments he made on the UFC 154 broadcast including pointing out how out of shape referee Phillippe Chartier appeared to be during the Tom Lawlor and Francis Carmont fight.

**Bryan Caraway has suffered an injury in training and is off of the UFC on FOX 5 undercard where he was set to fight Mike Easton in bantamweight action. Stepping in for Caraway is Rafael Assuncao and is coming off consecutive wins over Johnny Eduardo and Issei Tamura.

**Strikeforce has announced a light heavyweight bout between Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle for the rumoured final card for the promotion on January 12th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mousasi has not fought since last December where he earned a unanimous decision over Ovince St. Preux as Mousasi tore his ACL earlier this year.

**The UFC has found a home for their UFC on FX 7 event on January 19th in Sao Paulo, Brazil with the 11,000 seat Ginasio do Ibirapuera headlined by middleweight action between Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping.

**A welterweight bout between Erick Silva and Jay Hieron has been added to the UFC 156 event on February 2nd in Las Vegas, Nevada on Super Bowl weekend. Silva recently lost by decision to Jon Fitch at UFC 153 and Hieron is coming off a decision loss to Jake Ellenberger at the UFC on FX 5 in October.

**Newsday reports that Chris Weidman has suffered an injury in training and is off of the UFC 155 card set for December 29th in Las Vegas where he was to fight Tim Boetsch. Weidman’s training partner Costa Philippou will be inserted to the vacant spot to fight Boetsch. Philippou was scheduled to fight Nick Ring this past weekend in Montreal with both making weight but Ring was not allowed to proceed with the fight after suffering a nasty stomach virus and the Quebec Athletic Commission cancelled the bout with both receiving their show money from the UFC.

**Cheick Kongo and Stefan Struve have stated on Twitter that they will be fighting at UFC 155 on December 29th in Las Vegas.

**UFC President Dana White told Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com that they are in the process of moving the light heavyweight bout between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida to the UFC 157 card set for Anaheim, California on February 23rd. The fight was originally rumoured for the February 2nd UFC 156 card on Super Bowl weekend, which already has a very strong main card.

**The Las Vegas Sun reports that Todd Duffee is returning to the UFC to fight Phil De Fries on December 29th at UFC 155 to fill the vacated spot of Matt Mitrione, who is now fighting Roy Nelson two-weeks earlier. Duffee was released by the UFC in 2010 following a 1-1 campaign including a 0:07 knockout of Tim Hague at UFC 102 in August 2009. Since being released he has gone 1-1 with a loss to Alistair Overeem and most recent a TKO victory over Neil Grove at the second Super Fight League event this past April. Duffee was also one of the few fighters to be granted a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

**Andrei Arlovski has announced that he will be fighting on December 16th in Moscow, Russia for the Fight Nights promotion against a heavyweight named Mike Hayes. Arlovski most recently stopped Devin Cole on the inaugural World Series of Fighting card earlier this month.

**Here is the updated lineup for the January 12th Strikeforce card set for Oklahoma City after a number of fights were added over the past 24-hours:
*Nate Marquardt Vs Tarec Saffeidine for the Welterweight Title
*Daniel Cormier Vs Dion Staring
*Gegard Mousasi Vs Mike Kyle
*Jorge Masvidal Vs Pat Healy
*Josh Barnett Vs Nandor Guelmino (an Austrian heavyweight with a record of 11-3-1)
*Lorenz Larkin Vs Ronaldo Jacare Souza
*Ryan Couture Vs K.J. Noons
*Roger Gracie Vs Anthony Smith

**Chris Weidman is recovering from shoulder surgery that he had on Wednesday for a torn labrum and rotator cuff along with a separated AC joint and ligament tear. This is the injury that forced him out of his December 29th fight at UFC 155 with Tim Boetsch. Weidman wrote on Twitter that he would be recovered fully by the end of March 2013 after an initial estimate of six-months at the earliest.

**The UFC will return to London, England on February 16th at the Wembley Arena for the UFC on FUEL 7 event. They have not made any fights official as of yet for the card.

**Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports that UFC middleweight Alessio Sakara has signed a four-fight extension with the company. Sakara was most recently disqualified against Patrick Cote at UFC 154 in Montreal for illegal strikes to the back of the head. Sakara was planning to appeal the decision but was immediately shunned by the Quebec Athletic Commission so the result stands.

**FX Executive Eric Shanks stated on the UFC on FOX 5 conference call yesterday that he is trying to convince the UFC to run their annual Super Bowl card in New Jersey next year on the eve of the Super Bowl (which takes place at MetLife Stadium) and air it on FOX.

**Dana White also noted on the call that they were very happy with how UFC 154 did on pay-per-view stating it was a great weekend for the UFC and “the king of pay-per-view is back” in reference to Georges St-Pierre without being specific on any of the metrics from the show.

**MMA Junkie has reported that Pat Healy will now be fighting Jorge Masvidal on the January 12th Strikeforce event from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Healy was originally scheduled to challenge Gilbert Melendez for the Lightweight Title but Melendez will not be ready to fight by that date due to his ongoing shoulder injury that forced him out of their fight this past September and the subsequent cancellation of that card.

**One FC and Glory Sports International have signed an agreement to exchange talent and is expected to lead to a number of One FC fighters competing on the New Year’s Eve show that Glory Sports is putting together under the DREAM banner. No fighters have officially been announced by One FC for the card.

**Enjoy this quiet weekend in MMA as the schedule is about to get insane for the next few months with the following major shows set:
*December 7th – Bellator 83 - Shahbulat Shamhalaev Vs Rad Martinez
*December 8th – UFC on FOX 5 – Benson Henderson Vs Nathan Diaz
*December 14th – Bellator 84 (Season 7 Finale) – Dave Jansen Vs Marcin Held
*December 14th – UFC on FX 6 from Australia - George Sotiropoulos Vs Ross Pearson
*December 15th – TUF 16 Finale on FX – Roy Nelson Vs Matt Mitrione
*December 29th – UFC 155 – Junior dos Santos Vs Cain Velasquez
*January 5th – Invicta FC 4 – Alexis Davis Vs Shayna Baszler
*January 12th – Strikeforce “Champions” – Nate Marquardt Vs Tarec Saffiedine
*January 19th – UFC on FX 7 – Michael Bisping Vs Vitor Belfort
*January 26th – UFC on FOX 6 – Demetrious Johnson Vs John Dodson
*February 2nd – UFC 156 – Jose Aldo Vs Frankie Edgar

**Invicta Fighting Championships presents the greatest finishes of 2012.

Steven Seagal says he would fight Randy Couture “any time, any place”
ImageImage

12.04.12 Written by Vince Mancini

Intrepid MMA reporter and my best Twitter pal Ariel Helwani had the chance to interview Steven Seagal yesterday, and as always, the old poonani-loving, Nobel Prize-deserving, sleeveless kimono-wearing, front-kicking, chicken killer did not disappoint (I meant Seagal there, in case that was unclear). First, he made sure to point out that welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre is good, but not great, which I’m sure has nothing to do with the fact that GSP’s action movie star to humor du jour is Van Damme, while Seagal himself has long been humored by middleweight champ Anderson Silva, who may fight GSP at some point in the nearish future, in the MMA equivalent of Pacquiao-Mayweather. (With Van Damme and Seagal in their respective corners to help stretch their groins and execute proper karate kicks, I’m sure).

“I think [GSP] is a really nice guy,” said Seagal. “I think he is a good fighter and a good martial artist. Would I call him great? No.
“One of the things that a master looks at when they look at a fighter is the history of the fighter. When you look at the history of the fighter, you look at their very best fights, their best work, and their worst. If you look at Anderson’s worst fights, they’re not bad. He still looks pretty good.”
“If you look at GSP’s worst fight, you look at the thing he did with Shields in Canada, that was atrocious. I think that is very telling. I just didn’t think the technique and the fighting skill was there in that instance. I also saw him after the fight and he wasn’t looking or feeling very well either, which does have some meaning. I think he got hurt in that fight and whether he dominated him or not, I just didn’t think he looked good.”

Silva had two atrocious fights against Thales Leites and Demian Maia, and almost got wrestle-f*cked to a decision against Sonnen, so that’s just stupid. But as crappy as Seagal’s logic is, I wouldn’t argue that GSP is on the same level as Silva either. Also, I’ve buried the lede: Seagal also says he’s willing to fight retired former light-heavy and heavyweight champ (and budding action star) Randy Couture “any time, any place.” Oh pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease, Dana White make this happen, this would be the best Christmas present EVER:

Seagal, or ‘Fritão’ as he known among his fighting Brazilian brothers, also said he would fight UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.

My Portuguese is a little rusty, but I believe ‘Fritão’ translates loosely as “one who loves Fritos.”

Couture recently quipped that he would stay retired, “unless Seagal wants to sign up.”
The 60-year-old Seagal is willing to accept the challenge.
“I have to wonder what his intentions may have been in saying that,” said Seagal. “I always thought that Randy was my friend and a gentleman. I’m kind of confused why he would say that, but I’m here, anybody can find me any time and any place. If Randy really wants to fight me, he can fight me any time he wants”
“It would be for free, and it would be some place where there are no witnesses. I’m hoping it wouldn’t get to that, and I don’t know why it would come about, but if that’s what he wants, he can get it any time he wants.”
“I don’t play by the rules. I’m sure one person will walk out. I’m a man of honor. I’m a gentleman, but I am a warrior, and if he needs to find me, he knows where to find me.” [MMA Fighting, Transcribed via MMA.tv]

**UFC President Dana White spoke to the media on Thursday after the press conference and indicated that Georges St-Pierre wants to fight Nick Diaz next and that is the fight they will likely make since St-Pierre wants it so badly. Johny Hendricks was furious over this decision and took to Twitter complaining and begging for the next title fight and eventually White responded saying that he agreed with Hendricks and he would eventually get his shot.

**The UFC has announced a light heavyweight bout between Cyrille Diabate and Jimi Manuwa for the February 16th UFC on FUEL 7 event in London, England. Diabate most recently stopped Chad Griggs at UFC 154 while Manuwa made a huge statement in his octagon debut at the UFC on FUEL card this past September in Nottingham, England defeating Kyle Kingsbury.

**The UFC on FOX 5 card kicks off at 4:30pm EST today from the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington with the FOX portion beginning at 8pm EST. Here is the full card for tonight’s show:

MAIN CARD (8pm EST, FOX)
*Benson Henderson Vs Nate Diaz for the UFC Lightweight Title
*Alexander Gustafasson Vs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua
*BJ Penn Vs Rory MacDonald
*Mike Swick Vs Matt Brown

PRELIMINARY CARD (5pm EST, FX)
*Jeremy Stephens Vs Yves Edwards
*Rafael Assuncao Vs Mike Easton
*Ramsey Nijem Vs Joe Proctor
*Henry Martinez Vs Daron Cruickshank
*Abel Trujillo Vs Marcus LeVesseur
*Dennis Siver Vs Nam Phan

**Henry Martinez came in over weight and wasn’t able to make the 155 limit and has forfeited 20% of his purse as a result. Nate Diaz also came in heavy but made 155 on his third attempt.

**Bellator had some bad luck last night with Shahbulat Shamhalaev coming down with food poisoning and being taken off the card and his tournament final against Rad Martinez likely being moved to the card next Friday, which is their Season 7 finale. Here are the two main card results that aired on MTV2:
*Anthony Leone over Zach Makovsky by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Jessica Eye over Zoila Gurgel by standing arm-triangle at 0:58 of Round 1

**XFC lightweight Nick Newell (a fighter with only one arm) won the promotion’s Lightweight Title on Friday night defeating Eric Reynolds and airing on AXS TV in the United States. This is a story that could get a lot of attention to outside media outlets and featured a classic call from Michael Schiavello as Newell won the fight.
