RM True Story: i gave myself tennis elbow by doing that all weekend leading up to Neil and The Horse at Red Rocks:

Also, say what one will say about Psych PIll, by the end of the record you are certainly taken on a ride. Walk Like a Giant leaves you wondering how the fuck a man, a band, of that age and experience can leave you wanting and needing more of what they just offered you....

Songs like the title track. She's always dancing and born in ontario...are legit classic Neil and Horse tunes.

Drifting back is pretty ridiculous and it sounds like its basically a companion piece to his meandering Thought Vommit commonly referred to as his new book...

But overall....

Im really happy this record has been made.

It's a downright awful song, as written--a couple of lumbering chords and arguably Neil's worst lyrics since "Let's Roll," which is no small feat. Braving 27 minutes of it while trying to stomach the knowledge that there's still two discs' worth of album on the other side of it is not a task for the faint of heart. But once I got over it and gave into it, I found myself getting lost in it pretty easily. I love how the Crazy Horse jam fades in under that acoustic intro, giving the impression that we're simply zeroing in on a mere half an hour of a perpetually living, grooving life form.

I love Neil's epic jams, but I'm not sure I like the underlying vibe of the song enough to tough it out for almost half an hour. I much prefer the non-effected mix of the title track too.

She's Always Dancing is great, I have it on right now.

Oh, absolutely agree the straight forward mix of title track. Mostly likely, i will end up switching it out digitally as the main track list....

I think Walk Like a Giant works at its length because there is a melody to be experienced in the refrain...

Driftin back is just a mess and way too long.

DIdnt see Kevin Davis post about Driftin Back.

Yea, I think neil recognizes what the song is too. I dont think he is a slouch when it come sto self awareness.

Me three for preferring the rawer version of the title track. Sometimes Neil's Luddite tendencies really shine through when he tries to embrace some sort of technology--the version in the formal running order sounds like a high school kid running amok with his first effects pedal.

Yea pretty much. Like he plugged in through garage band and hit the "whispering effect" button.

Interesting that he included the non edited version on the release...

Man, what a fucking show last night. Those old guys kicked my ass, so so good. Cortez and a sped up arrangement of Helpless were tops for me but god damn if I didn't have a shit eating grin all night.

Here's a vid of the encore, Helpless:

Just finished reading 'Waging Heavy Peace'.

What a joy, the closest I'll ever come to sitting by Neil's fireplace and hearing his thoughts on his incredible life.

I found it very moving in parts.

:peace:

It's such a wonderful book. It's so personal and his telling of it all is purely him. Little flaky, very rambley but always honest. He's had an incredible life. Great read.

At one point he mentions going to Seattle to celebrate with PJ for their twentieth anniversary. They must have had a party?

When I hear PJs 'Alone' I can hear Neil's 'Ohio'. Is that weird?

There is a certain similarity to the meter of both song's verses.

There're a few mentions in the book. I'm hoping for all if not most of the Zuma beach, Malibu garage stuff. Supposedly Zimmerman sings on a track.

Been listening to Mirror Ball a lot this week. I hope someday Neil and PJ hook up again and make another record.
