Riot Act needed that response at that moment in time, but the catalog as a whole doesn't--but it was fantastic at the time. In that respect S/T is one of their most dated albums for me.
Good observation.
It would have been a great EP - Life Wasted through Parachutes. I don't hate the other songs but I don't feel they belong with the songs on the first half of the album - they all sound like songs from the band's side projects.

Marker is a great song.
You're half right.
I know, but I don't think the chorus ruins the overall song as much as some people do.
Wow. If I were to give that song any pass, it would be on the chorus. I think there's a melodic moment there that flirts with something as good as anything on Yield, yet the lyrics make me cringe enough to just as easily turn my back on it all.
The verses and the guitar line under them are just horrible, though. Good lord.

I don't hate the chorus. I think the rest of the song is great and the chorus is just good.

I'm a fan of any riff that loops in on itself almost to the point of hypnosis. The riff on Marker plays on the same principles as most of Vitalogy: eschew the rock in favor of the roll and let the guitars abandon melodic control in favor of swirling, churning trouble. The vocals, then, can go anywhere they want, theatrically.

Now you're just trolling.
Yes and no.
I'm trolling by understanding that Gone is objectively middle of the road by Pearl Jam's standards and almost universally underwhelming when it comes to this forum's collective taste, but gosh darn it I really like that song's mood.
