Doug, would you advise against dropping a cup or two of apple cider in this next batch of simmering turkey/venison soup?

I'm seeing now that volume is an issue. What kind of heat distribution would I need in a bigger pot on a stove to simmer this batch+two cups of cider for the next few hours? My crock is, oh, maybe two and a half gallons and full.

just keep it on low heat for awhile..I'm assuming you're putting it into the crock after to cook for a number of hours?

if you want it cooked fully, turn to high heat on the crock for the next 4 hours...it may not be complete though in that time frame

Essentially, everything is going according to plan except that, on a whim, I now want to add some cider.

take some of the liquid out of the crock and add the cider...you have mason jars to help in such an ordeal

Regardless, no I don't have a plastic bottle. Even if I did, the mouth of this jar is wider than your standard bottle.

To be honest, I'm not sure it made a difference. There's a lot going on here. I liked this soup so much that I've had another batch going all afternoon. Should be ready around midnight, then it's going in mason jars.

I dig a guy with mason jars

I'll gladly leave a bottle at a secret location in H-town for the Mrs. if you'd like. Just let me know.

we appreciate that but we have plenty of mason jars..the mrs. lands at LAX in 1 hour..i've started happy hour at home by myself

You don't pick up your gal at the airport after she's been gone?
