There's not really a dud on either record--both play through beautifully from start to finish. The songs on "Bloom" feel more distinctly crafted, though, while losing none of the atmospherics, which I would agree gives it the slight but definite edge.
I had a similar reaction to "Devotion" too--I didn't give it a terribly attentive listen, but it definitely seems like they're one of those groups whose recordings improve as their recording capacity improves. I'll have to check it out again.

A top five.
Heavy, intelligent, and honest.
Kowloon Walled City is a band that, theoretically, i should be really into. I love their aesthetic and they play the kind of music that comprises like half of my daily listening. Yet for reasons that i can't pin down, i just kinda feel bored whenever i listen to them.

Message to Bears - Folding Leaves is probably my fave so far. Admiral Fallow - Tree Bursts in Snow is also very enjoyable.

This is good. Thanks for posting.
If you liked this try his 2010 album "The Wild Hunt" and its accompanying EP "Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird." That's his best stuff to my ears.
